Marine Gen. John Allen, a 1976 graduate of the U.S. Naval Academy, served this country admirably for more than 36 years. Now he has announced he wants to retire. The 59 year-old former top officer in Afghanistan cited his wife's "chronic" illness and said he wants to devote more time to helping his beloved Kathy cope with serious health problems, including an undisclosed "auto-immune disorder." We join the vast majority of Americans who pray the general's wife will get better, and thank him for his service to this country. But one would have to be pathetically naive not to realize...

Washington Rep. Congressman Dave Reichart says he won’t vote for Donald Trump in the wake of his “comments and blatant disrespect for women.” He says that Trump has lost his vote due to his comments in a video from 2005 recently shared by the Washington Post. “As a son, husband, father and grandfather I am appalled by Donald Trump’s comments and blatant disrespect for women,” Reichert writes in his statement. “The actions described in that video are absolutely reprehensible.”

SEATTLE – Darcy Burner, the Democrat who twice tried to unseat Rep. Dave Reichert in Washington's 8th District, announced Wednesday that she is entering the 2012 race for Washington state’s 1st District seat. The district is currently held by Rep. Jay Inslee, D-Wash., who is running for governor next year.

The Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee may be throwing in the towel in Washington State’s Eighth District race between incumbent Rep. Dave Reichert (R) and former Microsoft executive Suzan Delbene (D). The Delbene campaign has been running silent for at least 48 hours, and sources indicate that the DCCC has cancelled a third of their broadcast television buys in the Seattle market for October 19th through the 25th. Credible sources claim that the cancelled spots were those that targeted Reichert, leaving Delbene now to fend for herself. The cancellation of the DCCC's ad buy affects a critical time period in the...

Rep. Dave Reichert, R-Auburn, was treated for a subdural hematoma, apparently due to a minor head injury, after being admitted to a Washington, D.C., hospital on Wednesday. His office said Reichert was admitted to George Washington University Hospital after feeling ill. Following an evaluation, doctors performed a procedure to treat a chronic subdural hematoma — collection of blood on the surface of the brain — that was likely the result of a minor head injury. The procedure was successful, and Reichert is expected to make a complete recovery, his office said. He's expected to be discharged in a few days.

Reader Tim in Bonney Lake, Washington forwarded me his e-mail exchange with GOP Cap-and-Tax 8-er Rep. Dave Reichert. Definitely worth sharing, because it reflects a sentiment that hasn’t died down since the cramdown two weeks ago: Hi, Michelle -

Listen to delusional Congressman Dave Reichert (RINO-WA) explain why he voted for the Cap and Trade, or National Energy Tax, which passed Congress by a slim 219 - 212 margin last Friday. The bill now goes onto the Senate for final passage. Below are the eight Congressional Republicans, complete with contact information, who voted for the behemoth 1,300 page bill:

In the wake of last week's landmark passage of the House climate bill, conservatives have focused their fury on the handful of Republicans who voted in favor of the sweeping legislation. The eight Republicans are Mark Kirk of Illinois; Mike Castle of Delaware; Mary Bono Mack of California; Dave Reichert of Washington; John McHugh of New York; and Frank LoBiondo, Leonard Lance and Chris Smith of New Jersey. Rush Limbaugh on his radio show yesterday accused the eight of voting for the bill sponsored by Democrats Henry Waxman of California and Edward Markey of Massachusetts because of Wall Street's influence...

“Never before have so few stolen so much from so many for so little.” -Jefferson Paine Open Letter to: Mr. David Reichert Republican Representative Washington State Delegation June 30th, 2009 Dear Mr. Reichert, Please, resign your seat in the U.S. House of Representatives because of your “Yes” vote in favor of the abominable “Cap and Trade” or “Climate Change” bill - and without having even read the final bill in its entirety before voting on it. Your egregious voting record does not represent me, or of any Republican that I know. Since your debut in Congress, I have been watching...

From the Seattle Times: Washington, DC - Congressman Dave Reichert (WA-08) released the following statement today after the U.S. House passed the American Clean Energy and Security Act: “Energy independence and our national security are critical issues for America. These issues transcend politics. The future of this country is on the line and we can spare no effort when it comes to leading on these issues at a global level. “This bill is not perfect, but it is a vital step toward energy independence. America cannot maintain global leadership without innovation and new ideas, and we cannot lead if we...

House Republicans who received campaign donations from environmental groups helped make up the narrow margin of votes needed to send the Waxman-Markey “cap and trade” bill over to the U.S. Senate. The legislation passed by a vote of just 219 to 212 on Friday with critical assistance from eight Republicans. They are: Mary Bono Mack (Calif.), Mike Castle (Del.), Mark Kirk (Ill.), Leonard Lance (N.J.), Frank LoBiondo (N.J.), John McHugh (N.Y.), Dave Reichert (Wash.), Chris Smith (N.J.). This support proved critical with 44 Democrats voting against the regulatory scheme.

Eight so-called republicans voted “Yes” for the Cap and Trade (American Clean Energy and Security Act) tax bill that goes against the most basic of core conservative principles.Four of the eight RINO’s active Twitter accounts, so we checked their page at 6:00PM PST, more than 24 hours after they helped the democrats pass what was no doubt the most devastating vote they have ever made in the House of Representatives. Let’s see what they tweeted (posted, for those of you not fluent in the language of the bird). Mary Bono Mack (R-CA) @markbonomackNot even a mention of Cap and Trade,...

Republican Rep. Dave Reichert ’s win for a third House term was confirmed late Friday night, as Democratic nominee Darcy Burner conceded defeat in the close rematch of their 2006 race in Washington’s 8th Congressional District. With Reichert’s Republican hold in the suburban Seattle district, the Democrats’ net gain in the national House campaign stands at 19, meaning they will enter the 111th Congress with at least 254 seats. Those figures currently appear likely to go at least 257 seats and a net gain of 21. Democrats believe they have secured two more takeover victories, both in districts that have...

In the fall of 1985 I was a rather complaisant Evangelical Protestant. If not quite fat, dumb, and happy--well, at least I was happy. Or so I thought. I was confident in my Evangelicalism and took it for granted that I possessed the truth absolutely. I had had a vivid conversion nearly thirteen years before. I studied the Bible diligently, and I belonged to a solid, growing, thoroughly Evangelical church. I had many well-educated Evangelical friends; I had a sense of purpose in pursuing apologetics as my ministry. Then I chanced upon a slim little book by Thomas Howard entitled...

Breaking from Fox News: Congressman Dave Reichert (R) defeats Darcy Burner (D).

Republicans say a new ad is grossly misleading and the Democrats are illegally using copyrighted video. Conveniently leaving out bits of information is a well-worn tactic in political advertising, but Republicans say the latest ad in the 8th Congressional District race crosses the line.

If the election for U.S. House of Representatives were today, and you were standing in the voting booth right now, who would you vote for? Republican Dave Reichert? Or Democrat Darcy Burner? 50% Reichert (R) 48% Burner (D) 3% Undecided

Today President Bush traveled to Seattle, Washington for a fundraising luncheon to benefit U.S. Rep. Dave Reichert, R-Wash.,in his bid for reelection. Later the President traveled to New Mexico for another fundraiser for U.S. Rep. Heather Wilson in her reelection bid. Despite of all the biased polling that has been focused on smearing the President, President Bush has raised more money for Republican candidates than anytime in the past, and has done so in fewer appearances.

I was listening to John Carlson on KVI coming home tonight and he had an authority on about drilling in ANWR. The authority said that there is about a 38-hour window to contact your congresscritters re voting in ANWR. IIRC he said that there was language in both the Defense Bill and the appropriation bill (sorry, don't remember specifics as I was trying to concentrate on driving downtown Seattle in rush hour - something I don't normally do). John said he had spoken w Congressman Reichert (my Congressman) and while Dave supports drilling in ANWR, he's probably going to vote...
