Republican Rep. Dave Reichert s win for a third House term was confirmed late Friday night, as Democratic nominee Darcy Burner conceded defeat in the close rematch of their 2006 race in Washingtons 8th Congressional District.
With Reicherts Republican hold in the suburban Seattle district, the Democrats net gain in the national House campaign stands at 19, meaning they will enter the 111th Congress with at least 254 seats.
Those figures currently appear likely to go at least 257 seats and a net gain of 21. Democrats believe they have secured two more takeover victories, both in districts that have long been Republican Party strongholds. One is in Virginias 5th District, where Tom Perriello a founder of faith-based groups holds a lead over six-term Republican Rep. Virgil I. Goode Jr.. The other is in Marylands 1st District: the vote count there shows Democratic prosecutor Frank M. Kratovil Jr. leading Republican state Sen. Andy Harris, who defeated nine-term Republican Rep. Wayne T. Gilchrest in a Feb. 12 primary. In addition, the Democrats appear certain to hold the seat in Louisianas overwhelmingly Democratic 2nd District, where Democratic Rep. William J. Jefferson , though under indictment on federal bribery charges, was renominated and is heavily favored in his Dec. 6 general election.
Still undecided are the Nov. 4 races for two open Republican districts, Ohios 15th and Californias 4th, where GOP candidates currently hold narrow leads over their Democratic opponents. And there is a competitive race for the Dec. 6 election in Louisianas 4th District, another open Republican seat.

A little good news out of Washington state.
There are still a couple of undecided races out there.
Reichert’s not my favorite, but his opponent was a ghastly anti-war leftist.
In California’s 4th, Republican Tom McClintock is now up 970 votes.
Actually my mistake that didn't take into account another 122 from El Dorado County today. McClintock is up 1092.
Is Rep. Dave Reichert a conservative?
Sweeeeet...DailyKos’s PAC raised hundreds of thousands for Darcy Burner. They are weeping over there over this loss.
How many votes to count EGD?
Not quite. He’s what one would call a semi-RINO. Probably the best we can do in a district that voted for Obama by more than the national average.
It will come down to Nevada County. Hope someone is minding the store over there.
He’s about as conservative as you can be up here in the little Soviet Union.
“In addition, the Democrats appear certain to hold the seat in Louisianas overwhelmingly Democratic 2nd District, where Democratic Rep. William J. Jefferson , though under indictment on federal bribery charges, was renominated and is heavily favored in his Dec. 6 general election.”
My question is a simple one. Where is Pelosi saying that Mr. Jefferson will not be seated? Where is the democrats calling for him to resign? Guess what’s good for the goose isn’t necessarily good for the gander huh?
If Jefferson actually gets convicted, either he’ll be expelled, or Republicans will have a great talking point.
I couldn’t stand snobby witch Darcy. She’s a Kos nut. I bet she’ll run again in the next election too.
He is indeed a RINO but in WA, that’s all you’re going to get.
It was nice to see Gilchrist go BUT I’d expected that we would have held this seat.
No but his district is suburban Seattle, so be grateful.
Impressive hold, I thought he toast in that seat. He and Mark Kirk surprised me.
He sabotaged the Republicans chances. Obama lost that district, it is GOP. Should be an easy gain in 2010.
