Republicans are falling into a familiar trap. From President Trump to Vice President JD Vance to Sen. Josh Hawley (R-Mo.), a growing number of party leaders have come to believe that coercive labor unions are a permanent part of American politics, so the Republicans might as well forge an uneasy truce if not an outright alliance with them. To build that bridge, Hawley released his first of several promised pro-union bills in early March. The thinking seems to be: If labor unions are here to stay, why not put political expediency ahead of deeply held Republican principles like worker freedom...

The Islamic regime is weak and teetering on its own structural flaws, but no one would know it by the rhetoric coming out of Iran. In fact, just as Moscow did before the collapse of the Soviet Union, Tehran is deflecting blame for troubles at home and engaging in double-talk abroad. Ask any Iranian observer and they will tell you that obfuscation has been standard practice of the regime since the Islamic Revolution. While U.S. Special Envoy to the Middle East Steve Witkoff is preparing to meet his Iranian counterparts in Oman this Saturday, Tehran continues to quibble over whether...

California Governor Gavin Newsom has signed an executive order temporarily suspending landmark environmental laws to allow victims of wildfires to rebuild their destroyed homes and businesses faster. Newsweek has contacted Newsom's office for comment via email. Wildfires have devastated communities across the Los Angeles area, burning through an area larger than San Francisco and destroying more than 12,000 structures since January 7. At least 24 people have died, and at least 100,000 remain under evacuation orders. Early estimates indicate the fires may be the costliest in U.S. history. AccuWeather, a private forecaster, has put the damage and economic loss between...

Patti Davis, actress and youngest daughter of the late President Reagan, gave Prince Harry some sage yet unsolicited advice ahead of the release of his memoir, "Spare." In an op-ed written for the New York Times, Davis, 70, cautioned the Duke of Sussex to be judicious with his candor. "My justification in writing a book I now wish I hadn’t written… was very similar to what I understand to be Harry’s reasoning. I wanted to tell the truth, I wanted to set the record straight. Naïvely, I thought if I put my own feelings and my own truth out there...

John Hinckley Jr., who attempted to kill President Ronald Reagan weeks after he took office in 1981, admitted in a recent interview that he is also responsible for the death of Press Secretary James Brady, who was also shot during the attempted assassination. Hinckley was released after spending 41 years in custody. He sat down with Piers Morgan on "Piers Morgan Uncensored" for an interview slated to air Monday evening. In a series of clips posted to social media, Morgan presses Hinckley on whether he killed Brady, who died decades after being shot.

Tyrnauer pulls no punches in his new Showtime documentary series “The Reagans” in which he explores the life and political impact that the 40th president had on the future of the conservative movement, casting a negative light on the role that his Hollywood ties played in shaping the country’s image of him and Nancy Reagan. “The whole Reagan legacy is a brilliantly confected myth,” he told The Hollywood Reporter in an interview. “The real Ronald and Nancy Reagan are virtually unknown. They learned how to myth-make from the best, who supported them: [Warner Bros. founder] Jack Warner, [legendary gossip columnist]...

Matt Latimer writes in Politico: Nancy Reagan never would have considered herself part of the Washington “establishment.” For one thing, she hadn’t lived in this town in decades. More importantly, she had a constituency of one: her beloved husband. And if the DC establishment didn’t like it (they often didn’t) that was too damn bad.

President Reagan’s Radio Address to the Nation on the Observance of Easter and Passover on April 2, 1983. Reagan talks about freedom and tyranny. I bet Obama’s on the golf course.

Former President Ronald Reagan's liberal activist daughter Patti Davis is asking just what many other people across the United States want to know — why she's losing her insurance. "Could the president please explain why I and others are losing our health ins. plans? Wasn't supposed to happen!" Davis posted on Twitter Friday afternoon.

Senate conservatives proudly call themselves “Reagan Republicans” because of Reagan’s “Peace Through Strength” military policies. But in Leon Panetta, whose nomination comes up for a full Senate vote for Secretary of Defense on Tuesday, they are being asked to endorse a man whose Congressional career was dedicated to fighting Reagan’s defense build-up and anti-communist policies. That is why the unanimous vote in favor of Panetta in the Senate Armed Services Committee is so mystifying. Based on the facts about Panetta’s record and curious connections to a major figure in the Communist Party, which are only lately starting to get the...

WASHINGTON, March 12, 2008 – Vice President Richard B. Cheney commemorated the 25th anniversary of the Strategic Defense Initiative last night, pressing for a renewed U.S. commitment to a national missile defense system to protect against current and future threats. Speaking here to the Heritage Foundation, Cheney recalled former President Ronald Reagan’s 1983 proposal to create a shield of ground- and space-based systems to protect the United States from incoming strategic nuclear ballistic missiles. The Defense Initiative Organization stood up to oversee the program, which came to be nicknamed “Star Wars,” after the popular space movie series. The concept...

NEW YORK (AP) -- Capping an extraordinary conservative furor over a movie virtually no one has seen, CBS said Tuesday it will not air "The Reagans" and shunt it off to the Showtime cable network instead.

<p>"The Reagans," the controversial made-for-TV movie finally made its way into American homes this week — but not nearly as many homes as originally planned after CBS moved it to its smaller, premium cable channel Showtime. I watched the entire three-hour melodrama in order to participate in a special Showtime panel discussion, aired after the movie, along with five other people who were invited to comment.</p>

Despite the media uproar of "The Reagans," its premiere on Showtime didn't exactly set the cable world ablaze, according to Zap2it.com. According to news reports, a little over 1 million viewers watched the three-hour movie, which did bring a larger-than-average audience to the pay-cable network Sunday, but not one big enough to rank in the Top 40 cable programs for last week. Eschewing the Showtime offering, about 3.5 million people watched the season finale of HBO's "Carnivale" Sunday. However, HBO is available in about three times as many homes as Showtime, which reaches between 12 million and 13 million subscribers....

Barbra Streisand cried "censorship" when CBS lobbed its stinkbomb "The Reagans" over to Showtime, but she's the would-be censor. The Democrat fat cat tried to keep fellow millionaire California "environmentalists" from posting a photo of her mammoth Malibu estate on their Web site, but now a judge has thrown out her $10 million nuisance lawsuit. Not even babbling Babs "is above the First Amendment," the San Jose Mercury News noted today. L.A. Superior Court Judge Allan J. Goodman ruled Wednesday that Silicon Valley big shot Ken Adelman did not violate Malibu Barbi's privacy when he photographed her energy-guzzling mansion...

POLLDid you watch The Reagans on Showtime? Did the movie change your opinion about the Reagan Presidency? How do you think the movie will influence other people's opinions of the Reagan years? How would you characterize the point of view of the movie? How warranted was the controversy over the movie "The Reagans?" How much do you agree with CBS's decision not to run the movie? Did you vote for Ronald Reagan in either 1980 or 1984? To delve into the polarizing issues surrounding the hotly debated movie, SHOWTIME will present a special round-table forum, CONTROVERSY: "THE REAGANS." The forum...

<p>The oldest rule of Hollywood must be that nothing calls attention to a product quite like controversy. So it's surprising that Reagan loyalists leaned so heavily on CBS to reject "The Reagans" last month, thereby creating much anticipatory ado about an average docudrama that certainly accentuates the negative about the former president and his wife.</p>
