Sen. Mitt Romney (R-Utah) is receiving a profile in courage award from the John F. Kennedy Library Foundation for his “historic vote” to impeach then-President Trump during his first impeachment trial last year, the foundation announced on Friday. “Senator Romney‘s commitment to our Constitution makes him a worthy successor to the senators who inspired my father to write 'Profiles in Courage,'” former Ambassador Caroline Kennedy said in a statement. “He reminds us that our Democracy depends on the courage, conscience and character of our elected officials.” Romney was the sole Republican senator to vote to impeach Trump last February on...

Henry, Henry, Henry! You’re not supposed to admit on national TV that your vote is a cynical stunt! This was hilarious: a politician openly admitting that his intended vote on an important matter would be a stunt, and one he would change if his vote actually counted for something. Appearing on CNN this morning, Dem Rep. Henry Cuellar of Texas repeatedly said that he would vote “no” on the continuing budget resolution . . . unless his vote was actually needed to avoid a shutdown. In which case he would vote “yes.” CNN host Alisyn Camerota called Cuellar out for...

Upon her election to the role of Rowan County Clerk in November 2014, Kim Davis said she felt "humbled" and "blessed." Speaking to the Morehead News, she made three promises: "I promise to each and every one that I will be the very best working clerk that I can be and will be a good steward of their tax dollars and follow the statutes of this office to the letter." Davis's willingness, or unwillingness, to follow those statutes are now the subject of intense national focus. She has refused on religious grounds to grant marriage licenses -- to both same-sex...

Kennedys honor George H.W. Bush's ‘read my lips’ flip-flop with Profile of Courage award The Kennedy foundation is praising George H.W. Bush for risking “his reputation and ultimately his political career by forging an important compromise on the budget in 1990.” Jack Schlossberg, President Kennedy’s grandson and a Yale University student, will present the award to Bush at a ceremony in May. George H.W. Bush’s epic “read my lips: no new taxes” promise cost him a second White House term, but it’s earning him a 2014 Profile in Courage award from the Kennedy clan. Despite his fervent pledge against a...

It sounds kind of canned, but there truly is a hero in all of us. We all were designed by God to be a blessing to others – a champion to someone. Don't ever minimize yours or others' position or potential. Everyone has a place on the planet. Contributing to the culture of courage is all of our duty. As my mother has always told me, I also pass on to you: God has a plan for your life. The question is: Will we recognize our potential and offer up the power of our one unique life? I am genuinely...

Pregnant Woman Recounts Shooting Rampage Wednesday August 9, 2006 3:01 AM By MARCUS FRANKLIN Associated Press Writer NEW YORK (AP) - Dayna Klein was writing thank you notes and making telephone calls in her office at the Jewish Federation of Greater Seattle when she heard what sounded like bubble wrap popping. When she also heard screaming and hurried footsteps, she got up from her desk and went to the office doorway and encountered a man holding a handgun. As he pointed the gun at the pregnant Klein, she reflexively covered her stomach with her left arm. The bullet pierced her...

America's controversial new ambassador to the United Nations is threatening to torpedo 12 months of negotiations on the reform of the organisation. With only three weeks to go before world leaders arrive in New York to agree the deal, ambassador John Bolton has tabled at least 500 amendments. n a letter to fellow UN ambassadors, Mr Bolton said the 38-page document might have to be ditched altogether and replaced with a far less detailed alternative. The letter, which was leaked yesterday, asks other ambassadors to remain "open to alternative formats if they help us achieve consensus". Mr Bolton's intervention has...

After her second round of chemo, Laura bowed to the inevitable and got a buzz cut and a wig named Wanda. It's typical that the hair loss kicks in about 2 weeks after the first treatment. I know because I had my sixth chemo yesterday. I'm so jealous that she still is so beautiful without much hair! I'm 48 and reasonably attractive but me without hair is not something anyone would want to see, believe me :-)

Read 'Rough Edges' Joseph Farah I just read one of the best autobiographies ever written. No, it wasn't Bill Clinton's "My Life." It was written by a man who tried to convict Bill Clinton in his impeachment trial – my friend James E. Rogan. It's called "Rough Edges: My Unlikely Road From Welfare to Washington." I first met Rogan in 1988, when he came into my newspaper office in Southern California as a tough, young Democratic prosecutor – when we were both a couple of 30-somethings. He briefly told me his compelling story. He grew up in a household headed...
