New York State Assembly Minority Leader Brian Kolb, a Republican, is calling on the CEO of CBS to fire David Letterman for crude comments he made about Sarah Palin and her daughter. In the letter to CBS chief Les Moonves, Kolb said he took Letterman to task for the "shockingly inappropriate" jokes. “As the proud father of a daughter, and as a husband, I wanted Mr. Moonves to hear from me directly about Mr. Letterman’s disparaging remarks," Kolb said in a written statement. “Firing Mr. Letterman would send a clear message that CBS will not tolerate any of its employees...

CBS has no official response to Palin, but a source inside the network forwarded EW this ABCnews.com article from last fall, cataloging various jokes many other late-night hosts made at the expense of Palin's daughter during the course of presidential campaign. (The implication: Letterman's joshing is nothing new—and Palin's anti-Letterman press blitz feels oddly behind-the times.) For her part, Palin is getting new support from a fellow Republican: New York State Assembly Minority Leader Brian Kolb today demanded that CBS fire Letterman for his comments, reports Fox News.

TV host David Letterman has been criticised for making "sexually perverted" comments and "rape jokes" about Sarah Palin's teenage daughter. The former vice presidential candidate hit back after he called her "slutty" and appeared to suggest her 14-year-old child slept with a baseball star. Letterman, the host of The Late Show on CBS, told his audience Mrs Palin looked like a "slutty flight attendant" on a trip to New York. The Alaskan governor was there for a baseball game and to be honoured by a special needs group, accompanied by Willow, 14.

Harold Ford, Jr. is the epitome of the equivocating politician who tries to play things both ways. But that strategy came a cropper for the MSNBC contributor on Morning Joe today. Ford claimed that though Letterman was wrong to make sexual jokes about Sarah Palin's teenage daughter, somehow the Palins are "unique," and thus presumably an understandable target.
