UPDATE 8:36: Ron Paul has been re-elected to Congress in the Fourteenth District of Texas. Campaign manager Mark Elam: "Chris Peden is toast. It's just a question of how big the margin is." The campaign is looking at a result in line with its final internal polls, with about 70 percent of the vote going to Paul. With about 8,400 votes in, Paul is leading Peden 72-28. UPDATE 8:53: These are early votes being reported right now, but around 40 to 50 percent of votes were cast in early voting and the Paul campaign doesn't expect the election day results...

Here is a link to the Texas Secretary of State’s election results page, for the Republican primary in the 14th US House district. It is updated every five minutes. The only results so far are from the voters who voted before election day. In those results, Ron Paul is leading his only opponent better than 2:1. Thanks to Eric Garris for this news. Dennis Kucinich is also running for re-election, but the Ohio results are delayed, because the poll hours have been extended.

Chris Peden, candidate for U.S. Congressional District 14, spoke at a Katy Area Republicans meeting Tuesday evening. Incumbent Ron Paul was unable to attend because he is on the presidential campaign trail. District 14 runs along the Texas coast, southwest of Houston, taking in portions of Fort Bend County. Peden is mayor pro-tem of Friendswood where, he says, he led the fight for the city's first-ever municipal tax refund, returning more than $1 million to taxpayers. While doing that, he pointed out, the town added 20 percent to its police force. A certified public accountant, Peden described himself as a...

While Ron Paul's presidential campaign is sputtering to an unimpressive close, his congressional campaign is beginning to look more and more like a slam dunk. A recent Public Policy Polling poll shows Ron Paul clobbering Chris Peden in the race for the Texas 14th District at 63 to 30. That may be surprising to some, but it really shouldn't be. Paul has faced a Republican challenger just about every election cycle. A challenger that has received at least implicit support from the national Republican Party. And Paul continues to clean up. Peden is making a big deal out of the...

LoneStarTimes.com has learned that attorneys for District 14 congressional challenger Chris Peden have begun to contact a wide-range of media outlets, insisting that they either cease airing or refuse to accept advertisements by Ron Paul containing false claims that he’s been named “One of the 50 Most Effective Members of Congress by Congressional Quarterly”. The citation of the CQ article is ubiquitous by Paul, appearing on his website and repeatedly referenced in his broadcast spots. “No Junkets” And he was called one of the “50 Most Effective Congressmen in America” by Congressional Quarterly. “Taxpayer’s Best Friend” …called one of the...

Chris Peden of Friendswood is challenging incumbent Congressman Ron Paul in the Republican primary. Since there is no Democratic contest, the primary winner will be the 14th District’s next representative in Congress. Peden, a 43-year-old certified public accountant who is the founding partner of Peden & Associates, L.L.P., offers the Republicans an excellent choice. Smaller government, lower taxes, strong national defense and traditional family values have defined the Republican Party, and Peden says he is the candidate who better reflects his party’s ideals. He is currently serving as mayor pro-tem in Friendswood, a city of 34,000 in the shadow of...

A familiar figure to anyone who follows local politics in Galveston County, Chris Peden has launched his Congressional campaign, expecting to deliver the same conservative leadership for our Congressional district as he has for Friendswood. “One thing I focus on,” said Peden, “is producing conservative results. All the talk in the world is useless without results, and I’ve been able to deliver.” As Mayor Pro Tem of Friendswood, Peden’s biggest accomplishment is undoubtedly leading a major property tax refund effort for Friendswood residents, which came to a million dollars. When asked about this tax refund, Peden replied, “That was a...

Chris Peden, 43, said he’s a pretty normal guy. But this mayor pro tem and certified public accountant spurred abnormal change in Friendswood. Peden led efforts there to refund $1 million in property taxes to homeowners, a first in the city’s history. Peden is the sole opponent for Ron Paul, R-Texas, heading into March’s Congressional District 14 Republican Primary, and he was in Victoria on Tuesday to explain why he thinks voters should choose him. District 14 encompasses counties from Victoria to Galveston, and eight others along the Texas Gulf Coast. Peden said Paul does little for the district. Instead,...

For the most part, Ron Paul’s constituents have tolerated his more quixotic political views because he’s delivered for the district, now it seems that he might be in trouble: Troubled by internal polls showing insurgent challenger Chris Peden having pulled ahead shockingly in the Texas 14th congressional district, Congressman Ron Paul will be pulling out of the Republican presidential race in advance of his home state’s March 4 primary, The FDH Lounge blog has learned. This news comes from a source with access to Paul’s congressional campaign and it parallels a recent move on the Democratic side of the White...

LAKE JACKSON — In what promised to be very different gatherings, Republican candidates Congressman Ron Paul and Friendswood Mayor Pro Tem Chris Peden met with District 14 constituents in Lake Jackson on Sunday to campaign for a seat in Congress. Peden is challenging Paul in the March 4 primary. Early voting begins Feb. 19. The candidates each had a rally at the Lake Jackson Civic Center on Sunday, and both said the overlapping times and shared venue simply were coincidence. The signs hundreds of Paul’s supporters held were both for his campaign for the Republican nomination for president, in which...

Are we really getting the most effective representation with Ron Paul as our Congressman? The presidential debates have exposed a stubbornness and inability to compromise that is at odds with the intentions of the founding fathers. Democracy requires negotiation and compromise to reach a consensus. We negotiate and compromise in our daily life, at work and at home. Ron Paul's inability to reach consensus on vital issues makes him ineffective as our congressman. Ron Paul is a self-described Libertarian; if he is so enamoured with Libertarian philosophy, why is he running in the Republican primary for Congress? I welcome his...

As Rep. Ron Paul's (R-Texas) fame grows nationally — courtesy of his quixotic yet well-funded presidential campaign — some Republicans are wondering whether the spotlight has imperiled his political standing at home and jeopardized his re-election in the 14th district. Paul, unlikely to win the GOP presidential nomination despite a solid fundraising effort that has seen the libertarian-leaning Republican set single day contribution records, is planning to run for re-election in the Southeastern Texas 14th district. But he could face a serious challenge in the March 4 GOP primary from Friendswood City Councilman Chris Peden, who is questioning Paul's commitment...

I regretfully won’t be able to vote for the gentleman who I endeavor to endorse with this entry. However, his inclusion, and by definition, his opponent’s exclusion, from the next US Congress will make America a better, more sanely governed nation. I hereby endorse Mayor Pro Tem of Friendswood, Tx, Chris Peden in his bid to unseat The Honorable Ron Paul as Congressman for the 14th District of The Great State of Texas. My disdain for the supporters of Ron Paul’s campaign for the 2008 GOP Nomination stands undiluted and virulent. They have grown deracinated from the traditions of civil...

Friendswood - Republican congressional candidate Chris Peden issued the following statement calling on House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-CA), Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-NV), and presidential candidate Congressman Ron Paul (R-Lake Jackson) to denounce the full-page advertisement, “General Petraeus or General Betray Us?” from Moveon.org, defaming General Petraeus that appeared in the New York Times on September 10th: “Although I was encouraged by General Petraeus’ comments that the troop surge is working and I support the War on Global Terror, reasonable people can disagree over the general’s assessment of the War in Iraq. But MoveOn.org’s personal attacks on General Petraeus...

Nominees For Special Election Get Ready For Short Race For 37th Seat (LOUISVILLE) -- The special election for the open 37th District seat now has its two candidates. On Sunday Republicans nominated former teacher Debbie Peden a day after Democrats nominated State Rep. Perry Clark. They replace Republican Dana-Seum Stephenson and Democrat Virginia Woodward who faced off in the last election. WAVE 3's Frances Kuo reports. Four Republican candidates had stepped up to the plate with three-minute pitches including Doug Hawkins, Betty Drexler, Debbie Peden, and Tommy Riddle. Forty ballots from the Republican party's executive committee revealed their choice: Debbie...
