HONOLULU -- A tribute service for President-elect Barack Obama's grandmother has been scheduled for the public to attend. The service to honor Madelyn Dunham will be held on Friday at 5 p.m. at the National Memorial Cemetery of the Pacific at Punchbowl.

So there I was, a couple of weeks back, sitting under a mango tree in western Kenya, when Senator Barack Obama’s half-sister Auma says to me: “My daughter’s father is British. My mom’s brother is married to a Russian. I have a brother in China engaged to a Chinese woman.” My understanding is that this half brother living in China is Mark. There has been all sorts of reaction to Senator Obamas speech on Reverend Wright. A key comment he made was: "I can no more disown Reverend Wright then I can disown my White Grandmother." The junior Senator from Illinois is of course refering to the woman who raised him as a child, not the Kenyan family he keeps putting up on a pedestal. The last I heard she was isolated in an apartment with no access to the media, and I dont beleive this has changed. Has anyone heard a peep out of her? "I cant disown my white grandmother"...

If anyone else running for president locked his granny away and refused to allow her to be seen, would the media complain? You betcha. But America's media have supinely allowed Barry Obama to pretend he has no white relatives. He has paraded his step-grandmother in Kenya, who never saw him until the 1980s, as his "granny," and locked the grandmother who actually raised him away in a closet. Now, the Chicago Tribune reports "the Obama campaign declined to make [his white grandmother] available." Is she sick? Not apparently. Bedridden? Hospitalized? Not apparently... What a disgrace.
