HONOLULU -- A tribute service for President-elect Barack Obama's grandmother has been scheduled for the public to attend.
The service to honor Madelyn Dunham will be held on Friday at 5 p.m. at the National Memorial Cemetery of the Pacific at Punchbowl.

she came out saying it was a broken hip, Obama rushed to her side , well not rushed by went to HI for two days two days later of the news breaking.
She then died of cancer, RIP.
Now obama is not attending her funeral
puzzling to me, back then he was in a middle of a campaign now he is not.
He had to go that week , emergency as one of his staff said.
Now he does not go to rest her soul

This looks like a public service. Perhaps they are doing a family one when they travel out there in December.
I heard on the radio that the Westboro a-holes were planning on protesting the funeral. I really hope not.

bizarre actually ... sorry but dark thoughts come to mind given the timing of his hurried last visit, timing of her death, the cancer which was never announced until she died,
and the election. Did Toot refuse to agree to be permanently muzzled about his birth?
a “public tribute”- how odd is that? a mini-Wellstone funeral but without Obama? Will they ask the public attending for donations?

Well...after all the time that has lapsed between now and her death, we know there won’t be an open coffin...not to mention the knife in the back and the bus tracks that would have to be dealt with.
Thank you for posting this. It has been driving me crazy that there has been no mention of a funeral for BHO’s grandmother. Hmmmmm.........
Sometimes people will fracture bones because the cancer had spread to the bone making it weaker. These are referred to as "pathological fractures" so the two different stories are not necessarily incompatible.
Good luck finding out anything about anyone in his family however.
He doesn't have to worry about her giving any secrets away any longer either.
Perhaps there were stipulations.
Her death, which conveniently occurred on the eve of the election and was disclosed to the media just before the nightly news hour (even though it had happened many hours earlier) is now an inconvenient bummer and they don’t want nobody to spoil their celebration.

Many, Many years ago I flew 800 miles to attend my grandmother’s funeral, and changed planes twice to get there ...although I was very young...anyone not giving respect to family members is very disturbing to me.
No, his white grandmother's brother's uncle who fought in WWII is still alive. Remember his boast during Memorial Day?
