Obama and His 'White Grandmother'
Wall Street Journal ^ | 3/18/08 | James Taranto

Posted on 03/18/2008 1:15:35 PM PDT by CA Conservative

Barack Obama took the stage this morning to give what was billed as a "major speech on race." It was, of course, an attempt to rescue his campaign from the revelation that his so-called spiritual mentor, the Rev. Jeremiah Wright, espouses a virulently anti-American and antiwhite worldview called "black liberation theology."

<--snip-->

What Obama is evading is that this "profoundly distorted view" is not just some passing emotion. It is what Wright himself, in the "talking points" page of his congregation's Web site, describes as "systematized black liberation theology." As we noted yesterday, Wright credits James Cone of New York's Union Theological Seminary with having undertaken this systematization. Here again is Cone's description of black liberation theology:

"Black theology refuses to accept a God who is not identified totally with the goals of the black community. If God is not for us and against white people, then he is a murderer, and we had better kill him. The task of black theology is to kill Gods who do not belong to the black community. . . . Black theology will accept only the love of God which participates in the destruction of the white enemy. What we need is the divine love as expressed in Black Power, which is the power of black people to destroy their oppressors here and now by any means at their disposal. Unless God is participating in this holy activity, we must reject his love."

Why isn't anyone asking Obama if he agrees with te tenets of black liberation theology? If this is the philosophy taught in that church, the problem goes far beyond the few clips of Rev. Wright's sermons...

Rescue is right. I didn’t see a rescue today. I guess his speech was about giving his supporters something to point to in the coming days when the questions continue to get asked and not answered.

Does he plan on attending this church in the future? Of course he does. It’s 8,000 votes for him, in the pocket. Oh wait, it’s his chance to be close to the man who lead him to Jesus.

You can’t ask Barry any real questions about what he believes...that’d be racist.

That’s what the MSM told me.

He’s just morally equivocating againt - it’s okay that Wright is a black racist, his own granmother was a racist as well! But, by Golly, they’re all *family* after all.

(gag)

Its taught in Wright's church and the problem goes well beyond a few video clips on YouTube. It goes to the very core of Wright's worldview.

Racism is a private matter. My grandma was a racist and so is Wright and who am I to blame them? I'm now convinced Obama doesn't get why the public was so disturbed.

Can you possibly get any more racist than this?

Obama's 20 year of silence in regards to this venom is defeaning.

in the coming days when the questions continue to get asked and not answered.

I think that any awkward questions which are asked between now and Nov will be answered with: "It was in the speech! Didn't you listen?? We're not through that again! It's old news! It's over!"

"Obama said this morning, "I have asserted a firm conviction--a conviction rooted in my faith in God and my faith in the American people--that working together we can move beyond some of our old racial wounds, and that in fact we have no choice if we are to continue on the path of a more perfect union."

But if he cannot speak out unequivocally against the public, organized bigotry of his spiritual mentor, how can he possibly live up to this promise?"

You can put a fork in this turkey. Like Mort Kondracke said yesterday, Obama might survive the Primary but he won't win the General Election. IMHO Obama is D.O.A. in the General Election

There might well be more (good AND bad) in Wright’s rants. And there might even be some frame that shows the youtube clips were taken “out of context.

Except the church has taken the sermons offline rather than share them with the public. So it looks like a coverup.

Hardly an honest church when it comes to dealing with this issue openly.

Can you imagine how any politician would be treated if they even met with a minister who said the following?

If God is not for us and against black people, then he is a murderer, and we had better kill him.

Are we suppose to vote for a man who is the son of a woman who most likely at a young age with no experience or the benefit of thinking got caught up in idealistic ideas and obviously never had to look at both sides?

I don’t think so.

I thought so too. I was wondering if he ran that past her before he used it. Do they stay in touch? He is so “black” that it’s hard to believe he can even be loving toward the woman. Wow.

According to Hannity, Obama wrote in one of his books that he agreed with black liberation theology.
