The owners of the NFL are reportedly considering a rule change that would make it mandatory for players to stand during the national anthem. A league spokesman said that the owners would discuss the potential change during a meeting next week, Dow Jones reported... In September, the president renewed discussion about the protests when he urged owners to "fire" the "son of a bitch" who kneels during the anthem.

Having gotten all the public relations it wanted (even a hackneyed Sports Illustrated cover), NFL leadership is now back to the more familiar demeanor of reminding its players to either get in line or join the unemployment line. Dallas Cowboys owner Jerry Jones said Monday that any player who is “disrespectful to the flag” won’t play. The league, then, itself upped the ante by feeding this tidbit to ESPN’s Chris Mortensen, which he reported before the station’s broadcast of [Tonight's] Monday Night Football. Mortensen later tweeted more details based on that policy and his conversation with Jones. (snip) Jones emphasized...

President Trump, in an exclusive interview with "Fox & Friends," said that NFL owners are “afraid” to act against their players protesting the national anthem at games across the country. “The NFL is in a box and they have to do something about it,” Trump told Fox News' Pete Hegseth, in the interview aired Thursday morning. “I think they’re afraid of their players, if you want to know the truth,” Trump said. In the same interview, Trump also touted the newly released Republican tax reform framework, describing the plan as the “largest reduction in terms of dollars in any plan...

The specific rule pertaining to the national anthem is found on pages A62-63 of the league’s game operations manual, according to a league source. It states: “The National Anthem must be played prior to every NFL game, and all players must be on the sideline for the National Anthem. “During the National Anthem, players on the field and bench area should stand at attention, face the flag, hold helmets in their left hand, and refrain from talking. The home team should ensure that the American flag is in good condition. It should be pointed out to players and coaches that...

So the local Miami media just reported 150 NFL players acted the fool yesterday. I did some quick math. 53.players multiplied by 32 teams =1.696 players. 150 players divided by 1,696 players = less than 9%.
  • NFL RULES OF CONDUCT ADOPTED DECEMBER 2014

THESE ARE THE VERY FIRST STATEMENTSIt is a privilege to be part of the National Football League. Everyone who is part of the league must refrain from “conduct detrimental to the integrity of and public confidence in” the NFL. This includes owners, coaches, players, other team employees, game officials, and employees of the league office, NFL Films, NFL Network, or any other NFL business. Conduct by anyone in the league that is illegal, violent, dangerous, or irresponsible puts innocent victims at risk, damages the reputation of others in the game, and undercuts public respect and support for the NFL. We...

The late Mike Royko once wrote that soccer's worldwide popularity only proves that most of the world is too poor to build bowling alleys. I'm inclined to agree, and so is the American public, which has rejected the sport by paying it absolutely no attention. So why then is Commerce City, a working-class municipality, banking its future on a soccer stadium? Last week, Commerce City officials and Kroenke Sports Enterprises announced plans to develop more than 360 acres of land that would house a soccer utopia. (Is that an oxymoron?) The complex would include a 20,000-seat soccer stadium for the...
