A California man has been arrested on suspicion of murder after his pack of pit bulls attacked a 63-year-old female jogger, who later died of blood loss from some 200 puncture wounds. Alex Jackson, 29, of Antelope Valley was booked on Thursday after his dogs, caught and impounded following the May 9 attack, tested positive to DNA belonging to victim, Pamela Devitt. He has also been charged with owner negligence, according to the Los Angeles County District Attorney's office. Jackson was initially arrested shortly after Devitt was killed while out for a jog near her home in Littlerock, but was...

Some residents in Valencia Park are resting easier this weekend. Two pit bulls that were terrorizing the neighborhood have been put to sleep following an attack Friday. A viewer contacted 10News on Friday afternoon after her dog was mauled that morning. The County of San Diego Animal Services confirmed that the two pit bulls in question killed a neighborhood dog in 2009. The owners of the pit bulls are now facing criminal charges, despite the dogs having been euthanized. ... A new ruling makes it easier for anyone attacked by a pit bull or pit bull mix in Maryland to take legal action against the dog's owner. The Maryland Court of Appeals ruling declares pit bulls as a breed are "inherently dangerous," and the owner of a pit bull or a cross-bred pit that attacks is strictly liable for damages, as is any landlord who rents to a pit bull owner. The Maryland SPCA, which arranges adoptions for dogs that need homes, currently has three pit bulls under its care: a five-month-old Brutus is scheduled to be adopted this week,...

OKMULGEE, Okla. (AP) - The Oklahoma Highway Patrol says a portable methamphetamine lab exploded in a man’s pants as he tried to run away from a state trooper during a traffic stop. Tulsa television station KOTV reports the incident happened shortly after midnight Friday in Okmulgee County. Authorities say the man tried to run away when the trooper asked him about a chemical smell. Trooper Shiloh Hall says the man had an active meth lab in his pants that burst during a struggle with the trooper. The man was checked out by emergency personnel and booked in the Okmulgee County...

I received a robo-call this afternoon from the Kentucky Leadership Council claiming Rand Paul wants to legalize meth labs. The caller repeated this claim several times. The Kentucky Leadership Council is a shadowy Democrat supporting group that hides their donors. According to the Daily Caller, they have launched another robo-call campaign claiming Rand Paul isn't a Christian. Both claims are false. The group directed me to a one page website containing a YouTube video. The website doesn't directly repeat the same false claim about meth labs, but the video does claim Paul supports legalizing drugs. Rand Paul is quoted out...

After a rash of deadly pit bull attacks throughout the Inland Empire, the San Bernardino County Board of Supervisors approved a measure Tuesday requiring all pit bull owners to spay or neuter their animals or face fines. In the last five years, pit bull attacks have killed four people in the county, including a 2-year-old San Bernardino boy who was mauled in May by one of the family's two pit bulls — named Taliban — and a 3-year-old Apple Valley boy who died after a similar attack in January. "It's an imminent issue that we felt had to be addressed...

MCALLEN -- Loose pit bulls are sparking a feud between neighbors in a McAllen neighborhood. Some neighbors are afraid to step out of their own homes, and they want the pit bulls gone, but the pit bulls’ owner said her pets are friendly. They only look intimidating.

What is the best thing to do if a pit bull — or several pit bulls — comes charging at you? "Look at it as a dynamic event," advises Daniel Estep of the National Animal Control Association's training academy. "If the dog is 50 yards away and starts after you, if you can escape somewhere — inside a building, or on top of your car, or jump a fence — then that's probably the best thing to do. If the dog is closer than that, then that's not a good idea. In a footrace, you're going to lose. "If the...

In a recent article about legislation against Pit Bulls, I ended with a comment on how fear and anger over isolated and heavily reported attacks was resulting in reprehensible actions being taken against Pit Bulls as a breed group, blaming the dog, and not irresponsible dog owners. A common refrain is "get rid of these dangerous dogs", even though breed specific legislation has not resulted in changes promised. Not anywhere.Petraits for Lake Shore Animal Shelter After reading an article showcasing a Baltimore group which, like the HSUS's "End Dogfighting in Chicago" organization, is working to help Pit Bulls and the...

A local father shot and killed a neighbor's pit bull. The dog was loose and had followed a child into the dad's home. Law enforcement says no one will face charges because of the incident-- not the father for shooting the dog in front of children, nor the pit bull's owner for letting the dog get out. It happened in a quiet neighborhood west of Lantana, the dog shot in the driveway of the home of J.R. Martin. Martin declined comment. But here's what the Palm Beach County Sheriff's Office and Animal Control say happened. At least two girls were...

News consumers on the US East Coast can be forgiven for nervously glancing over their shoulders in search of that 20-foot wave of crystal meth rolling toward them out of the Midwest, leaving in its wake a shattered landscape of trailer parks turned into toxic dumps, runny-nosed neglected toddlers clutching worn teddy-bears, and good parents turned into crazed, toothless tweakers who take time off from cooking more meth only to commit heinous crimes, steal more supplies, or have sex with their children. After all, this is, with only a little exaggeration, the message trumpeted by an ever louder cacophony of...

The latest attempt to grant driver's licenses to illegal immigrants in California cleared a Senate committee on Thursday but with provisions that restrict how the licenses can be used and what they would look like. The bill, by Sen. Gil Cedillo, D-Los Angeles, would bring California into compliance with federal law. The REAL ID Act, signed by President Bush last week, requires states to verify that people who apply for a driver's license are in the country legally. It also allows states to choose whether to issue driver's licenses to illegal immigrants as long as they have different markings —...
