Growing numbers of children and adolescents are being prescribed multiple psychiatric drugs to take simultaneously, according to a new study in the state of Maryland. The phenomenon is increasing despite warnings that psychotropic drug combinations in young people have not been tested for safety or studied for their impact on the developing brain. The study, published Friday in JAMA Open Network, looked at the prescribing patterns among patients 17 or younger enrolled in Medicaid in Maryland from 2015 to 2020. In this group, there was a 9.5 percent increase in the prevalence of “polypharmacy,” which the study defined as taking...

A transgender woman whose use of a women's restroom in an Idaho grocery store reportedly upset other customers has been cited for trespassing and banned from the store for a year, police said on Friday. A Rosauers supermarket in Lewiston asked police to charge 25-year-old Ally Robledo, who was born male but identifies as female, with the misdemeanor trespass charge on Monday, Lewiston Police Captain Roger Lanier said. "The store security officer said he had been dealing with a problem over a couple days with the person going into the women's restroom and urinating while standing up," Lanier said. He...

British singing sensation Susan Boyle stunned passengers in a VIP lounge at London's Heathrow Airport after she started shouting swear words and singing into a mop, The Sun reported Friday. The singer, 48, whose debut album I Dreamed a Dream has sold more than three million copies worldwide, suddenly grabbed the mop from a cleaner and began to treat it as a makeshift microphone as she suffered another public meltdown on Tuesday. During her bizarre performance, which sparked complaints to British Airways (BA) staff, she also used the mop to polish passengers' shoes. Airline employees tried to calm her down...

Rep. Alan Grayson (D-FL), darling of the far left for his exaggerated, over the top criticisms of Republicans - including his contention that opposition to health care reform by the GOP means they want you to "die quickly" - has written a letter to AG Eric Holder asking that a political opponent who runs a website called "mycongressmanisnuts.com." be fined and imprisoned for 5 years. Mark Matthews of the Orlando Sentinel writes: "Specifically, Grayson accuses Republican activist Angie Langley of lying to federal elections. His four-page complaint highlights the fact that the Clermont resident lives outside his district, but that...

Rep. Alan Grayson (D-Fla.) is possibly not the most stable member of the House. Against hot competition from the likes of Sheila Jackson Lee and Barney Frank, the Congressman appears to have the thinnest skin among all the Doomocrats, having publicly called Linda Robertson, a senior advisor to Ben Bernanke, a "K Street Whore." Republicans are instigating "a Holocaust" according to Mr. Grayson by not surrendering to the multi-trillion-dollar ObamaCare plan. Understatement is not Congressman Al's most conspicuous talent. Comes a blog site called www.mycongressmanisnuts.com, dedicated to the Thoughts of Al, complete with videos, quotes, and news.

CNBC “Mad Money” host Jim Cramer said on NBC’s “Today” show Dec. 2 that comparisons between the current economy and the Great Depression are “scare tactics.” Maybe he forgot about his own reliance on the juxtaposition. “[T]hat’s got to be taken off the table,” Cramer told “Today” host Meredith Vieira about comparisons to the Great Depression. “There have been enough things done by this government to absolutely preclude that. I, myself, do not want to use that term ever again on the “Today” show even to compare it. Things are very different. We do need help from Europe; we need...

WASHINGTON — Capitol Hill Democrats may be saying that the chairman of the Democratic National Committee doesn't speak for them, but Democratic activists and rank-and-file members outside the Beltway say they are happy with Dean's no-nonsense approach. "People outside Washington, D.C., love Howard Dean. He raises money for state parties, he sends money to state parties and he's attacking Republicans. That's what the chair of the party is," said Bob Mulholland (search), a campaign adviser to the California Democratic Party and one of the DNC members who in February voted for the former Vermont governor and 2004 presidential hopeful to...
