The Carmelites of Wyoming are looking to expand their present facilities, and McCrery Architects have come up an ambitious design for the Carmel. James McCrery, the architect, offers this statement: The vision for the New Carmel is for an authentically Catholic, Carmelite Monastery that embraces the French tradition of gothic architecture. This is the architecture that the Catholic Church truly owns! It developed in the 13th century in response to the strong growth of monastic life at that time. 800 years later, in this 21st century of Our Lord, these Holy Monks live a rich monastic life that is...

Picture this: A rotund, theatrical politician from Harlem and a wiry, introverted policy-wonk from Shreveport sitting elbow to elbow on the House floor, shuffling between each other's offices, passing paper between staffs. Two men from opposite ends of the political spectrum, they are joined in secrecy on a project that just about everyone else in Washington considers doomed to failure. Charlie Rangel and Jim McCrery are on a mission to rescue Social Security from bankruptcy. Conventional Washington wisdom long ago wrote the death notice on Social Security reform. What Republican would want to touch a project that blew up in...

A federal district judge in Shreveport has dismissed a lawsuit filed by unsuccessful congressional candidate Patti Cox challenging the residency of U.S. Rep. Jim McCrery and seeking to overturn the election results. Such a challenge should be decided by the U.S. House of Representatives, U.S. District Judge Tom Stagg said. "The House of Representatives is the only institution permitted by the Constitution to decide the qualifications challenge," Stagg wrote in a one-page judgment. That was the position McCrery's lawyer as well as a federal magistrate who heard the case had also taken. Cox has a challenge pending before the House...

BATON ROUGE - In endorsing fellow Democrat Kathleen Blanco of Lafayette in Louisiana's gubernatorial race, U.S. Sen. John Breaux cut all ties with her opponent, Republican Bobby Jindal of Baton Rouge, who assisted Breaux in drafting Medicare reform.

Jindal's ads talk about how he worked with Breaux and President George W. Bush on health care issues to show he can work with members of both parties. The front-runner in the Oct. 4 gubernatorial primary was executive director of the Bipartisan Commission on the Future of Medicare, heading the staff and preparing policy for members of the commission co-chaired by Breaux.

McCrery throws support behind Terrell's election Don Walker / Staff Writer Posted on November 28, 2002 U.S. Congressman Jim McCrery, R-Fourth District, pitched his support behind GOP Senate hopeful Suzanne Haik Terrell on Wednesday with a "whole-hearted" endorsement and a big "Duh!" "We have a Republican president, a Republican House and a Republican Senate. Duh!" said McCrery on why Louisiana needs Republican representation in the Senate. "It's a no-brainer for the state. We already have one good Democratic senator in John Breaux. It would be smart for Louisiana to add a Republican senator. That way we can work both sides...
