[history]
BATON ROUGE - In endorsing fellow Democrat Kathleen Blanco of Lafayette in Louisiana's gubernatorial race, U.S. Sen. John Breaux cut all ties with her opponent, Republican Bobby Jindal of Baton Rouge, who assisted Breaux in drafting Medicare reform.
Jindal's ads talk about how he worked with Breaux and President George W. Bush on health care issues to show he can work with members of both parties. The front-runner in the Oct. 4 gubernatorial primary was executive director of the Bipartisan Commission on the Future of Medicare, heading the staff and preparing policy for members of the commission co-chaired by Breaux.

The king says: "Bobby Jindal was a staffer who worked for us. He did what others told him to do," Breaux said Friday
So now we know: JINDAL WAS A STAFFER! JINDAL WAS A STAFFER! The king says so.
The king says: "The office of governor is not going to be appointed, it's not going to be anointed and it's not going to be handed down from one person to the next," Breaux said,
Did Breaux say this about the Seventh District representative post in 1972, when he was "anointed" by Governor Edwin Washington Edwards, his patron, to succeed Edwards in Congress? It's pathetic how the Republicans never challenge Breaux's silly statements.

***"The office of governor is not going to be appointed, it's not going to be anointed and it's not going to be handed down from one person to the next," Breaux said***
Yet, Breaux wants his Senate seat to be handed down to his anointed heir, Chris John.

Methinks the Dems are becoming desperate and playing the Cajun "card."

And Chris John has the same House seat that Breaux vacated in the 1986 elections to run for the Senate.

"The Moon Griffon Show," LA's radio talk show, is now discussing the Breaux-Jindal-Blanco situation. I have it on Internet access for a few minutes.

Republican Jimmy Hayes held the LA-07 after Breaux was promoted to the Senate. He tried to run for the 1996 Senate race, but failed to gain support from the GOP establishment. Any chance he could make a comeback?

Yea, I was one of those that thought Breaux was one of the good guys.
I also had a good opinion of Evan Bayh.
However, when push comes to shove, they always show their true colors and side with party before all else.
How sad. The only "good guy" democrat I can think of is my Senator Zell Miller. However, even he has disappointed me at times.

Well, you have a good memory. As I recall, Hayes and his brother got into an open family feud over something. Perhaps it was an inheritance. Didn't the brother, a Democrat, run against the incumbent, a Democrat-turned-Republican? Jimmy Hays won but then vacated the seat to run for something else, and I can't remember if it was governor or senator. Actually, I don't think Jimmy Hays was ever elected as a Republican to any office.

We were at Tsunami, a sushi restaurant in Lafayette, about two weeks ago. The menu prominently features the "John Breaux Roll".
I played the straight man and asked the waitress what is the John Breaux roll?
My dinning companion quipped, it costs twice as much and tastes like nothing.

Though we all see the perfidy of Breaux on this forum, he is more popular than either Huey P. Long or Edwin Washingon Edwards, his patron. Long did not have the business support that Breaux has. EWE did not have the support of the church community that Breaux does. If it were not for Article I, Section 10, LA would have made Breaux "king" and established a monarchy.

Moon Griffon said (I don't recall the source) that Breaux will join retiring Sen. Don Nickles, R-OK, to form a powerful bipartisan lobbying firm. Breaux wants to leave now to get a head start and needs a Blanco governorship to leave in the spring. Nickles must wait until January 2005 so that Governor Brad Henry could not name a new Democrat senator from OK immediately. Both have lost interest in being in the Senate. How is that for bipartisanship!

Jimmy Hayes represented the LA-07 from 1986 to 1996 as a Democrat. Shortly after Billy Tauzin switched to the GOP in 1995, Hayes announced he would run for the Senate seat vacated by Bennett Johnson as a Republican in 1996. Hayes raised very little money for his campaign. Bob Livingston drew his support behind Woody Jenkins. This sunk the Hayes Senate campaign. Since then, Hayes has not been involved in the LA political scene.

One of the funny things about LA people is that they have total faith in John Breaux, but if one asks a person what Breaux has accomplished in Washington, the person will have no answer at all. In fact, he may get irritated that you are questioning a sacred LA icon. It's all perception and posturing.

Plus he wantsa Blanco in so he can appoint his successor.
This guys not a horrible Dem but he's completely political.
