In the later years of his life, Frank Sinatra would often reminisce about his loves, his losses and the friends he missed most, including Marilyn Monroe. While the events surrounding what really happened on August 4, 1962 when the star was found dead from a drug overdose remain a mystery, Sinatra's close confidant and former road manager Tony Oppedisano, whose memoir Sinatra and Me: In The Wee Small Hours, is excerpted in this week's PEOPLE, says the singer didn't believe it was an accidental overdose. "Frank believed she was murdered," he writes, "and he never got over it."

August 4, 1962, was Marilyn Monroe’s Deathday. In May 1962, Marilyn Monroe sang her legendary breathy version of "Happy Birthday, Mr President" to JFK at a Democratic Party fundraiser in Madison Square Garden. Two and a half months later, on August 4, at home in Brentwood, Los Angeles, she died. In The Guardian, in 2016, David Thomson described her appearance in May 1962 with these words: "....... (she) stood there, with her massed blonde waves jutting off to one side, like the control on tower (of) an aircraft carrier, in a dress that could have been painted on her. ..........

June 1, 2023, is Marilyn Monroe’s 97th birthday In some or many male hearts and dreams, she is very much alive. She was available. “What do I wear in bed?” she pretended to ask herself, “Why, Chanel No.5, of course.” The fantasy was so good that it became real. “If I’d observed all the rules, I’d never have got anywhere.” Her reality sometimes went happily, but tragically too: these are believed to be her last words spoken to actor Peter Lawford: She was “tired and would not be coming” to dinner. “…… say goodbye to the president (Lawford’s brother-in-law), and...

They’ve got a three-year itch. A group of Palm Springs residents are fighting to remove a towering statue of Marilyn Monroe in one of her most iconic poses, arguing that the work is a sexist eyesore that blocks traffic. On Feb. 23, the Art Newspaper reported, California’s 4th District Court of Appeals overturned a motion to dismiss a lawsuit by the Committee to Relocate Marilyn (Crema), which is battling to remove Seward Johnson’s 2011 sculpture “Forever Marilyn” from its current site outside the Palm Springs Art Museum.

Joe DiMaggio's birthday today is a great time for me to think about the love of his life and use that feeling to express respect for other women with different talents that I revere. Marilyn was a free spirit. Freedom is at the heart of living a good life. The worse the police state trends in Australia get, the more I love the freedom fighters and the womanly beauty of some of them is no obstacle to making that love and respect stronger. That is how God made us.

Hugh Hefner will be laid to rest next to Marilyn Monroe, one of Hollywood's most famous and scandalous actresses — and the first woman to ever grace the cover of Playboy. Fans of Marilyn Monroe and historic preservationists who fought to protect a small home in Valley Village where the star lived when she was still a young Norma Jean Dougherty are furious that the structure was bulldozed suddenly this week. The home at 5258 Hermitage Ave. (map) was demolished beginning Monday, just days before a city commission was set to consider it for landmark status. The Los Angeles Cultural Heritage Commission was due to consider a bid to protect the developer-owned property on Thursday. But neighbors discovered the two single-story homes on the parcel were being knocked down on Monday.

Long before the murder, the girls and a role in “The Godfather,” Gianni Russo was a 13-year-old with a bum arm. Freshly sprung from Bellevue’s polio ward, he ditched his neglectful parents to sleep on flour sacks in the back of a Little Italy bakery and sell pens in front of the Waldorf-Astoria. It was 1956 and one of his regular customers was mob boss Frank Costello. The don would throw Russo a fiver and rub the boy’s withered shoulder for luck. After a few months of that, Russo objected to being touched. Costello respected the kid’s gumption — and...

Marilyn Monroe’s rear is getting some leers in Connecticut. A 26-foot statue of the iconic actress has been placed in a Stamford park across the street from a church, which is getting a full view of her behind.
