Thousands of pro-lifers stood outside in all kinds of weather Sunday to pray for unborn babies and their mothers. People gathered in about 1,600 communities in the United States and Canada for the annual Life Chain, according to organizers. The event brings pro-lifers together in their local communities to pray for an end to abortion and peacefully witness to the truth about life in the womb. In West Reading, Pennsylvania, about 75 people stood on the sidewalks in the rain, holding signs encouraging mothers to choose life, the Reading Eagle reports. “We got rained on quite well but people stayed...

We went to the Life Chain today. About 55 people showed up. We spread ourselves around the Court Square. A welcome from the president of the county Right to Life chapter, then an hour of silent prayer. Some friendly honks from passing cars. No hostile comments or gestures. I hope it did some good.

I want to comment on Jonathan Hayes' letter of Sept. 13: "Wants all to love all their neighbors as themselves" In good spirit you critique Mrs. Jane Brown's "Contends there is a fight between good and evil" letter of Sept. 10. Your statement of "...what you described was completely out of touch" leaves me thinking that there is no current "fight between good and evil going on." I'm sure you did not mean that. Of course good and evil have been part of our lives from the beginning. It is the reason for baptism to cleanse us from original sin....

The traditional Life Chain is held on the first Sunday in October. But should there be only one Life Chain per year -- especially if Congress addresses F.O.C.A. before next October? One solution is to have Life Chains as a semi-annual event. The 40 Days for Life is now a semi-annual event. The next problem would be if we have life chains twice a year, then when would be the most suitable time. It is my personal belief that the weekend before the Annunciation or the weekend after the Annunciation would be a great time. After all, that is the...

When will the churches awaken and “plead the case of the fatherless to win it [Jere. 5:28]”? Which pulpits in each community will rise up and lead? Friday Five: Jill Stanek by Jennifer Mesko, associate editorA life-changing event catapulted her into the pro-life movement, and now she's obsessed with it. (Editor's Note: This is the second in our series of Friday interviews with people of interest to family advocates. The format is simple: five questions every Friday.)When Planned Parenthood tried to sneak an abortion clinic into suburban Chicago this year, it forgot to do its homework on local life advocate Jill Stanek. The annual Canadian Life Chain took place this past Sunday at hundreds of locations around the country as silent pro-life witnesses held signs along busy streets and prayed that those passing by would consider the reality and harm of abortion. Next Sunday, Oct. 7 Life Chain will take place across the United States. In many locations participants have once again reported surprisingly strong support from passersby who honked their horns or gave a thumbs up to the supposedly politically incorrect message on the Life Chain signs. In Toronto such support was especially noticeable in regions with high levels of recent...
