    07/26/2022 1:36:06 PM PDT · by sodpoodle · 69 replies
In a very bizarre development, the wife of Leave It To Beaver actor Tony Dow now says she was mistaken in announcing his death. Los Angeles ABC reporter George Pennacchio just posted on Facebook that Dow’s wife, Lauren, mistakenly thought her husband had died during the night at their home and mistakenly informed Dow’s management that he had passed. Dow is reportedly near death, receiving hospice care at home. Deadline has reached out to Dow’s management team. “Tony Dow is still alive,” reports Pennacchio. “I had a conversation with his wife, Lauren. She is understandably distraught and grief-stricken about what’s...

He played the notorious troublemaker on two versions of the show; in between, he was a motorcycle cop for the LAPD. "He was an incredibly kind and wonderful father," his son said Monday in a statement. "He had his family gathered around him when he passed. He was loved and will be very missed." Osmond was 14 in 1957 when he hired for what was supposed to be a one-episode gig and went on to appear on 96 of the original series' 234 installments over six seasons. When Leave It to Beaver returned with an updated version in 1983, he...

Castoreum is a yellowish, strong-smelling secretion that comes from the castor sacs found near the base of a beaver’s tail. It’s an FDA-approved food additive, and hey, you can now get whiskey that’s flavored with the stuff. That knowledge comes courtesy of this piece from Food & Wine’s Mike Pomranz, which spotlights a nice little beaver musk whiskey made by Tamworth Distilling of New Hampshire. Fear not, castoreum is an FDA-approved food additive. That’s actually how this spirit came about. Tamworth’s team was looking to develop a new spirit, and in hopes of securing a speedy all-clear from the Alcohol...

25 Horribly Sexist Vintage Ads by Oral Adams Since the 50’s, a lot has changed in way of women’s rights and their duties in and out of the house. I highly doubt any company could get away with phrases like “The Chef [mixer] does everything but cook – that’s what wives are for!” nowadays. Or how about an ad agency pitching a company an idea of a wife bent over her husband’s knee as he prepares to spank her.

If Ward and June Cleaver had divorced, Beaver and Wally would have faced a bleak future and cost the government a bundle to boot. Such a concept has become more scarce these days. That is, a lot more people are divorcing. A report released this week by the Ottawa-based Institute of Marriage and Family reveals that 92 per cent of Canadian families had two parents in 1961 compared to 69 per cent in 2006. It might be none of our business how individuals handle their own marriages, suggests the report, if it weren't for the financial costs being imposed on...

Cleavers to Lohans: The Downhill Slide of the American TV Family It used to be kids in TV families who caused the problems and the parents who solved them. In the brave new world of reality television, parents are the problem. June 2, 2008 - by Katherine Berry There was a time in American television when parents and children alike would gather in front of the TV to watch Leave it to Beaver or even The Cosby Show, programs that affirmed the importance of the family structure and reminded us that loving parents can guide their children through even the...

It seems we’ve officially left “Leave It to Beaver” behind. In the new dynamics of home economics, it’s not just that men want women to contribute financially to a marriage: The vast majority of men say they wouldn't even mind if their wives brought home the bigger paycheck. That’s not the only gender stereotype that’s being left behind as couples increasingly grapple — as partners — with today’s economic realities, according to our exclusive Elle/msnbc.com Money, Sex and Love survey of nearly 74,000 men and women. “This is a real sea change that’s going on in gender roles,” said Stephanie...

LOS ANGELES — The actor who played Eddie Haskell on TV's "Leave It to Beaver" is suing the Screen Actors Guild, claiming the union is sitting on $8.1 million it collected from foreign royalties and should distribute to actors. Ken Osmond filed a lawsuit Tuesday in Los Angeles County Superior Court accusing SAG of unjust enrichment and violations of the state's business code. The lawsuit seeks class-action status on behalf of at least 30,000 actors and others. A call to a SAG spokeswoman seeking comment was not returned Wednesday. Osmond contends that since at least 1996, SAG has collected royalties...

The fathers in these shows did it all -- they were the breadwinners, the coaches, the teachers, the advice-givers and the loving guides who saved their children from danger. President Clinton is a big fan of "24" even though "an uber right-wing guy" produces the Emmy-winning political thriller. Clinton told TV advertisers Friday that his favorite show is the medical drama "Grey's Anatomy," and he appreciates "Boston Legal" for the dynamic between William Shatner and James Spader. "It's something to behold," he said. As for "24," which was co-created by noted Republican Joel Surnow, Clinton said he enjoys the fact that conservatives and liberals alike can be the bad guys in the show. "They're trying to be fair," Clinton said. His other must-see TV shows include "All in the...
