RALEIGH (AP) — State Democratic Party chairman Jerry Meek on Wednesday called on fellow Democrat John Kerry to apologize for his comments about U.S. troops in Iraq that critics, including President Bush, have called disrespectful. Kerry, the Massachusetts senator and 2004 presidential candidate, told a group of California students earlier this week that that people unable to succeed in the U.S. educational system could "get stuck in Iraq."
