The concerns come as the Bristol County Sheriff's Department says it has a new tool in the fight against COVID-19: specially trained K-9s that can sniff out traces of the coronavirus. Dogs have been used for years to look for drugs, chemicals and missing people. Using them as virus-hunters is relatively new. In fact -- no other police agency has tried it before. A 9-month-old dog named Duke enters a room at the Bristol County Sheriff's Department. Duke's handler leads him past a refrigerator where a fragment of a face mask worn by a COVID-19 patient has been hidden in...

Kenzie Campbell says on Sunday he took Momo on a hike at Banff National Park in Alberta with his girlfriend and another friend. They didn't get very far on the Cascade Ampitheatre Trail. "We just made it to the trailhead and walked around a corner and the bear was maybe 20 feet away," Campbell said. They backed slowly out of the woods, but the bear followed and charged. "At this point, the bear was 15 feet from my girlfriend and the dog was barking and growling, so I let the dog go and she distracted the bear while we ran,"...

St. Francis once said: “If you have men who will exclude any of God’s creatures from the shelter of compassion and pity, you will have men who will deal likewise with their fellow men.” This is the case every time. When someone is cruel to animals, they are cruel to human beings. In fact, Christianity is the best for the care of animals. Dozens of American-trained dogs were killed by a Kuwaiti-based company last week, according to multiple reports, though there are conflicting explanations for the deaths. While several news agencies reported the story, they fail to also report that...

In the UK, handlers with dogs who sniff out explosives in settings like airports, railways stations, and bus terminals have been taught to tread lightly and be aware of “cultural sensitivities.” That, of course, is code for don’t offend Muslims. Also in the UK, police dogs must wear special booties when entering Muslim homes so as not to offend. In addition, Muslim prisoners are given fresh sheets and clothes after dogs search their cells. The dogs are also not allowed to have any direct contact with prisoners’ Qurans.

Prime Minister Netanyahu adopted a 10-year-old rescue dog this summer. Apparently his son urged him to do so after hearing that the dog was about to be put down. The left being the left could not allow this to go without comment. I mean, it is outrageous when you think about it! Adopting an elderly dog from a rescue organization. Who does Prime Minister Netanyahu think he is? And so the left weighed in as only they can – with a level of hate and certifiable madness that truly boggles the mind. Israel National News reports:

When SSG. Jim Stanek was diagnosed with post-traumatic stress disorder in early 2009, the treatment options he was given included medication and group therapy. The former made him feel like a zombie, and as for the latter, rehashing war stories with others just wasn’t helping him move on in life. That’s when Stanek and his wife, Lindsey, then a veterinary assistant, considered a service dog. But there were two small problems: They had neither the tens of thousands of dollars required to purchase one nor the patience for the long waiting lists.

On the eve of the Normandy invasion, three planes carrying the members of Britain's 13th Battalion took off for France. In addition to the 60 men aboard, each plane carried one dog. The story of how these paratrooping canines got there — and what happened next — is nothing short of remarkable. Lazar Backovic has penned a fascinating article for Spiegel Online chronicling the brief but astounding story of Britain's parachuting dogs, or "paradogs." Much of the information in the article was drawn from a recent book written by Andrew Woolhouse, 13 - Lucky for Some: The History of the...

Those that were chosen to defend America, upon retirement, need a family to love. The military has a great adoption program for their military dogs. American Thinker had the privilege to interview Shane Larsen, who is the military working dog adoptions coordinator. He is a former Air Force staff sergeant who was an instructor and trainer at the Lackland Canine School as well as a former handler. The adoption program originated in November 2000 as a result of the "Robby Law," preventing the euthanization of four-legged warriors. MARINE CORPS AIR STATION YUMA, Ariz.---The Provost Marshal’s Office K-9 Marines and their dogs visited Yuma’s Centennial Middle School Feb. 8 to provide law enforcement education for students in the eighth graders. The Marines started the demonstration with an example of a hot stop. A hot stop consists of the K-9 handler finding himself in potential danger, then using a remote control device to release the dog from the vehicle, allowing the dog to come to his aid. The K-9 handlers also performed the aggression-type training, in which the dog bites a would-be suspect in a controlled environment, as well...
