I hope this is the right way to ask this here 1) I've lurking here and rarly post , Normally I can navigate message boards with relative ease, but (at least for me) FR presents one of the more difficulte one to navigate. I mostly look at the latest threads and messages to see what current. How do the pro's here navigate FR? 2) Ok a lot of keywords added I get how some can see it relates :) but someone adds CARY to many unrelated posts, Is there a acronym I'm missing here? 3) When posting, on picking forums,...

  • AOL Instant Messenger is accessible even though port 5190 is blocked

I am trying to block AIM from a computer. I have configured our router DLINK 614+ to block port 5190. After I do so, I am unable to connect via a Dell Inspiron 5100 that runs XP Home. However, a desktop computer on the same network STILL can access AIM. It also runs XP Home. Are there other ports that AIM uses? Why is one computer unable to reach AIM and the other one is? Is there a way I can tell which port the successful computer is using to reach AIM? Thanks for any help. How else can I...
  • Honey Do List Has Me Washin' Outside Windows(Spring Cleaning Sucks)

Washin' the outside windows went pretty well today until I got to the ones exposed to both rain and sunshine. Windex, and Windex Outdoor neither one would remove the yucky water spots that had built up. The only thing that worked after multiple trys was a single edge razor blade to scrape it off. I am sure there must be some product to spray on or somthing to get these windows to pass inspection. I, being a capitolist at heart, feels that I could have employed many of those "Migrants" that want to do the work that I do not...

Okay, to start off I want everyone to know that I am not a troll. I have been a FReeper for about 2 years under a different username. The nature of the advice I need is kind of personal, and I would like to stay anonymous if possible. If you really, really, really just HAVE to know who I am, FReepmail me and I will tell you my other login. I also apologize for any bandwidth or server space that creating a new account for one thread will cause, and if the Mods want to delete I understand. That being...

Up to six days ago my post automatically carried my tagline. Abruptly that stopped. If I do not enter it manually, it does not post. Clues as to why? And I can't seem to figure out to fix it. This is apparently one of my duh days.

I have looked at the HTML Boot Camp and have learned a lot there, but I have been unable to learn how to post a picture that is resident on my computer that I did not get off of the web. I know how to post a picture taken from the web using the form: img_src="http://www.hotpix.com/images/xyz.gif" (enclosed by < >) I do not know how to post a picture that I have stored on my hard drive. For instance, say I take a picture of Teddy Kennedy in a drunken stupor slobbering all over Hillary Clinton with my digital camera....

I was wondering if anyone else is having problems with their concast cable internet connection. Thank g-d I can get freerepblic and its slow, but some websites come up and some don't. I ran a virus scan, ran spybot, and renewed my ip address. I tried to call them, but their number is busy which is very absurd for a fortune 500 company. Just wondering if anyone else is experiencing the same?

Nick Silverio of Safe Haven for Newborns in Florida has asked that we spread the word of a disabled newborn in need of adoption. The child, born today, has no arms, only one leg, and is missing a good portion of his jaw - but his prognosis is good.  The baby was abandoned by his mother under the Florida Safe Haven law and, unless potential adoptive parents can be found quickly, the child will become a ward of the state (and, it is feared, the target of euthanasia).  The Florida Department of Children and Families will not become involved unless...

Who else wants Cuban's? Okay, I understand the embargo, but isn't it past time? Give me good reasons why we are still doing this!!!! It would only increase/decrease (I'm not sure) the quality of cigars available. Flame me...I'm not really this shallow...but wanted the conversation sparked :-)
  • Moving to DC area, need some advice

I'm in the final steps of securing a new consulting contract, and it looks like I'll be moving to the Washington, DC area. I could use some advice for getting myself settled from those who are familiar with the area. The job site is in Lanham, MD, near where the eastern side of the Beltway crosses route 50. I have a car already, and the hours are such that I will thankfully be able to avoid rush hour traffic in both directions. I've got some family there who will put me up for 2-4 weeks while I get myself settled...

  • Male Battering - A Serious Problem

The first reaction upon hearing about the topic of battered men is that of disbelief - or an uncomfortable chuckle. Battered husbands are a topic for jokes (such as the cartoon image of a woman chasing her husband with a rolling-pin). Wives are often the perpetrators in depictions of domestic violence in newspaper comics. Battered husbands have historically been either ignored or subjected to ridicule and abuse. Most people have a difficult time even imagining that husband battering could take place. The abuse of husbands is a rarely discussed phenomenon. Nonfatal violence committed by women against men is less likely...
  • Data on ER visits, pharmacy sales may help war on terror (Syndromic surveillance)

In the fight against terrorism, few stones are left unturned. Every day, patient data from a handful of emergency rooms is sent to the Indiana State Department of Health to be crunched and analyzed. An epidemiologist watches intently for upward trends in rashes, fevers and unexplained deaths. Or a sudden surge in over-the-counter drug sales. The practice -- called syndromic surveillance -- broke onto the public health scene immediately after the Sept. 11, 2001, terrorist attacks and later anthrax deaths. The surveillance method is widely viewed as a tool to detect a possible bioterrorism attack. Computers allow the instant sharing...

I have been a Mac user since the first one rolled off the assembly line. I love them, and still have one, which I am using to write this post. The problem is that I bought a notebook PC because I have some work related needs that I couldn't use my Mac for. My teenage son asked if he could check his email on the PC, and like an idiot, I said yes. He walked off with the notebook, and went to a web site that a friend had told him was "really cool". It became infected with spyware, ad...

Tonight there is a woman lying in a Florida hospital. This woman is totally dependent on others for survival. For fifteen years, she has fought debilitating injury. Her parents and family love and are devoted to her. With their continued support, this woman will live until the time God dictates she be called home. However, the State has other ideas. It decrees she be murdered. Keep in mind the only "crime" she has committed is to be sick. She's not killed or robbed anyone. She has not hurt anyone at all. Nonetheless, "learned" judges have declared she must die a...
