Oh, yeah...they're all on weekends....oh, by the way, under the new recruiting plan, weekends are restricted to any day that ends in "y" and duty to any place in Colorado or not.....you in for the money, or what???

Contact a NG recruiter.

Basically, when you join the guard, you'll have to go to basic training, followed by training your selected specialty. This will take several months of active duty training. Once you're qualified, you'll work a weekend a month and one 15-day 'annual training' period every year. You're subject to being called up for either deployment or mission support. These periods can last as long as two years. Many guardsmen are being activated to serve stateside tours of 18 months to support active duty installations.

Well, best bet is to contact a National Guard recruiter...

That being said...I would be prepared for more than weekends and two weeks out of the year. My youngest brother is in the NG and will deploy to Iraq later this year.

If that doesn't bother you, or is what you are looking for (which it doesn't sound like to me) go for it. Otherwise, I would stick to checking the classified ads for some kind of part-time gig.

You REALLY REALLY need to talk with someone who's already in the Guard (and not a recruiter)about realistic expectations about service in the ANG. Far be it from me to ever discourage service in the military, but it sounds like your concept of the roles and responsibilities of the Guard may need some adjustment. Plenty of Guardsmen here in Iraq who thought they were in it for the money/education. Unless you are prepared to fight and die for your country, don't do it. My 2 cents....

Thats the thing, I would love to help out in some sort of way, other than voting for all the right people and telling liberals to go screw themselves. But, the OTHER thing is, I love my fiance more than my country, and my God more than fiance, which really has nothing to do with my this, but, I don't think being deployed 6 months away from the wedding would be the right thing to do. Thanks for the help.
