My FIL had a printer that when you turn the computer on it starts printing the last thing he printed from the time before with out any commands and it keeps printing over and over.

How and where do I find the commands and tweak them?

Its Compaq computer, the printer is a HP 610CL

Thanks in advance for any help.

There is apparently a command in the print document que that authorizes this action. Suggest you find the printing options section of your printer software and remove this command or else click on the option to reset to original factory configuration.

If that fails I would simply un-install the software and reinstall it again.

oooh - I've seen this before and I think this is a bad driver problem. If you can re-install drivers, either from disc or website, it wouldn't hurt.

ecurbh is out at the store right now... but he won't be gone long, and I bet you get an answer sooner.

You are undoubtably right, and in a perfect world, that would be the end of it.

But it's not that simple.

I have been "fighting" a similar problem since January with an HP1300 series PSC printer.

The installation drivers and device suite (includes scanner and copier), which allow such small things as dumping the queue simply refuse to install of my current XP system.
It installed perfectly on a spare Windows 2000 system. Unfortunately, that is not my current system.
Trying to get an updated installation program from HP has been, so far, ineffectual.

It's not that much different than 98. You can probably find some tools in Start - control panels - printers.

Beyond that, you're over my head. ecurbh not back yet.

We dumped the queue and that seemed to fix the problem.

We will try this for a for a while and see what happens.

Thanks for the help.

Good. XP is good in that if you need to it can find it's own drivers.

I hope this machine works out good for you. Is this the one that will become Becky's machine?

while you may have driver, etc. problems....

At a minimum: Go start > run & type in msconfig.
On the start up tab, uncheck references to the HP printer
(& any other references unrelated to firewall, AV & spyware)>>OK, reboot

(The printer doesn't need to launch at startup)

The solution is simple. Buy a new Samsung laser printer for $80 after rebate. Problem solved! (I have one, and for that price, it simply can't be beat!)

refuse to install of my current XP system.

What happens when you try to install? Does it produce an error? Had it been installed previously on this machine and uninstalled? Did you have another multi-function machine installed on the PC prior to this one?

Darn - that's a good price. I've got a Samsung Laser, and love it. It's much cheaper to run that the ink jet printers, and it just keeps working.

I picked up one of these printers before Christmas, and absolutely love it! The way I look at it: with the price of ink for ink jets, it's just not worth it. If I have pics I want printed, I upload them to CVS and pick them up the next day; MUCH cheaper than printing them myself. I have gone the route of after-market cartridges, and they have not been worth it. I don't need color to print text, so the laser is the obvious choice. AND, it's much cheaper to print on a per page basis.

Its possessed. Liberally sprinkle Holy Water on the printer, keyboard and hard drive.

Works every time. Promise.
