OK, I have a question for Friday night amusement.I went to get cat food out of the pantry for my kitty and it wasn't sealed properly so hundreds of ants got in it. I didn't want to throw it away so I decided to nuke them. I set it on high for 30 seconds. They went crazy but still alive. I repeated, still alive. I tried 1 minute, still alive. Another minute, still alive. (This is a brand new Mocrowave) In total, 7 1/2 minutes. The bag melted and some of the ants were sitll alive! I think they may...

Give three things you're absolutely sure of going into this year. A: 1. USC will win the Pac-10 in a walk. Although Cal and UCLA are quality programs, the gap between No. 1 and No. 2 is no more pronounced than it is in this conference. And while the Trojans have retooled for another monster run toward a national championship, the other nine programs are packed so tightly that they’ll cannibalize one another every Saturday 2. Week-in and week-out, the SEC will show the rest of the nation why it’s still the deepest, most talented, and most exciting conference in...

Scores of people are flocking to a village in northern Malaysia to see a betel nut tree which has sprouted a human-like face, reports said Tuesday. Newspapers carried pictures of the green face on a frond of a seven-metre-high tree. The unexplained phenomenon has led villagers in Kampung Paya to dub it the "ghost tree," the News Straits Times reported. The Star newspaper's website showed a picture of a tree with a face-like feature reminiscent of a Pacific island ritual mask. Owner Miah Majid, 60, told the newspaper that she spotted the face last week and that it was the...

Barbara Kopple and Cecilia Peck have crafted an insightful and heartfelt look at the experiences of the Dixie Chicks over the last three years, chronicling the often bizarre consequences of singer Natalie Maines' anti-Bush wisecrack on a London stage. Maines' statement is captured in "Dixie Chicks: Shut Up and Sing," as are the meetings where they plot how to circumvent the core country audience and, eventually, how to reroute a tour and cancel shows due to poor ticket sales. It's the rare thorough documentary on a musical act whose dilemmas are faced in the here and now, one that should...

NEW YORK -- A public school teacher was arrested today at John F. Kennedy International Airport as he attempted to board a flight while in possession of a ruler, a protractor, a set square, a slide rule, and a calculator. At a morning press conference, Attorney General Alberto Gonzales said he believes the man is a member of the notorious Al-Gebra movement. He did not identify the man, who has been charged by the FBI with carrying "weapons of math instruction." "Al-gebra is a problem for us," Gonzales said. "They desire solutions by means and extremes, and sometimes go off...

by Mark Finkelstein August 30, 2006 - 13:49 In the wake of the fauxtography scandals of the recent Middle East conflict, you might think that the MSM would be particularly careful to avoid tinkering with photos. And if there is one TV news operation you would imagine would be particularly gun-shy about altered documents, it would be the Memogate network - CBS. Apparently not. The photo on the left is Katie's official CBS photo. The one to the right is to be found in the CBS "Watch" Magazine. Whoops. You know, they say it's all about the accessories. That little...
