48-year-old Evan Neumann of California, aka the Jan. 6 Capitol insurrectionist who fled to Belarus last year to escape the FBI, has been granted asylum in the eastern European country, according to Belarusian state-owned news agency BELTA. Neumann “received refugee status in Belarus,” BELTA reported on Tuesday, per Russian news agency Interfax. “The document was handed to him today at the Department of Citizenship and Migration of the Internal Affairs Directorate of the Brest Regional Executive Committee.” Everything’s gone swimmingly, according to Neumann, who ran away from the U.S. in February last year. “I feel safe in Belarus. I’m calm,...

The Black Lives Matter activist who was seen storming the U.S. Capitol on Jan. 6 was arrested and charged, the Department of Justice said Thursday. A newly released court filing says John Earle Sullivan, 26, told FBI agents last week that he was at the Capitol when the breach happened. He said he entered through a window that had been broken out. He also said he was present when Ashli Babbitt, an Air Force veteran, was shot dead by a U.S. Capitol Police officer as she tried to climb into the House Speaker’s Lobby through a window. Sullivan showed agents...

A Florida congressman made a statement about coronavirus on the House floor. Rep. Matt Gaetz wore a gas-mask on Wednesday during a vote on emergency funding to fight the spread of coronavirus. The bill would allocate billions of dollars to combating coronavirus as concerns rise over the spread of the respiratory illness. The move comes as the number of cases of the virus in the U.S. rises above 100 and the number of deaths approaches a dozen. However, Vice President Mike Pence said the American public’s risk of contracting the novel coronavirus “remains low,” stressing that there is “no need...

In this story from Vancover, Washington, a man in a gas mask attempts to rob a convenience store. He has a gun and threatens the clerk. He gets some money and leaves. From katu.come: The employee's friend took out his own firearm and followed the suspect outside, police said. The suspect turned around and pointed his gun at the man, who in turn fired several shots at the suspect. Officials aren't sure if the suspect was hit. What is not said in any story that I have read about the incident, is if the gas-masked suspect dropped the...

Although no one has officially said that a war is imminent, or even on the horizon, the tension in Syria and the reports of missiles launched at northern Israel in recent days has caused a significant increase in requests for gas mask kits, reported the Israel Post Office, which distributes the kits. Until approximately two weeks ago, around 2,000 kits were distributed daily; on Sunday, 4,730 were distributed, a record number for one day. A similar increase was seen in the number of Israelis who sought customized gas masks, to accommodate children and people with special requirements. Several weeks ago,...

Israel has a shortage of civilian gas masks, but you wouldn’t know it from walking down Manhattan’s St. Mark’s Place, where the masks are on sale in half a dozen stores for a mere $25 each. The Israeli model 4A1 gas masks on display in the East Village — where storefront noodle shops bump up against vintage clothing stores — might not protect you from a chemical weapons attack. That’s because their protective filters have been removed and replaced with foot-long acrylic bongs meant for smoking marijuana. Gas mask bongs, used by pot aficionados to intensify the drug’s impact, started...

Israel on Sunday began distributing new gas masks for civilians to use in a possible chemical or biological attack, the army said. "The civil defence has asked the Israeli postal service to begin distributing gas masks on an experimental basis to the residents of Or Yehuda," a military spokesman told AFP, referring to an area near Tel Aviv. "Gradually, based on the lessons learned in this operation and in accordance with the Israeli government's decision, the distribution will be extended to the entire population," he added. The government decided on January 5 to distribute some eight million new gas masks,...

NASHVILLE, Tenn. -- An American Airlines flight was forced to make an emergency landing Monday morning after a passenger lit a match to disguise the scent of flatulence, authorities said. The Dallas-bound flight was diverted to Nashville after several passengers reported smelling burning sulfur from the matches, said Lynne Lowrance, spokeswoman for the Nashville International Airport Authority. All 99 passengers and five crew members were taken off and screened while the plane was searched and luggage was screened. The FBI questioned a passenger who admitted she struck the matches in an attempt to conceal a "body odor," Lowrance said. She...

Sen. John Kerry’s mangled anti-Bush joke has metastasized into a week of negative news for liberals hoping to regain control of the Congress. Even his reluctant apology has done little to quash the fires he lit. Significantly, these fires rage because liberals have yet to expunge the scarlet “D” that has adorned them since the Vietnam War -- “D” for disdain of our military. Let’s review the tape. Kerry advised students at a campaign rally in California that they would “do well” if they studied hard and made “an effort to be smart.” If not: “You get stuck in Iraq.”...

A West Point Cadet sends this along with the photo below: I'm a cadet at West Point, and tonight at our game against the Air Force Academy, a big sign emerged, and it was shown to the Corps of Cadets, who cheered wildly, and then shown to the Air Force cadets, who also cheered.

Downtown Little Rock is the scene of an intense search after police arrested one man and found weapons, ammunition and a gas mask on a rooftop. <p>EAST BANK OF THE EUPHRATES RIVER, Iraq (March 26, 2003) — A 3rd Infantry Division tank company team fought and destroyed an Iraqi Republican Guard force at point-blank range Tuesday night about 80 miles southwest of Baghdad. The firefight came near the end of a running, 30-hour series of shootouts that the Pentagon is describing as the largest battle of the war. Pentagon officials have put the number of Iraqi troops killed by the 3rd Infantry as anywhere from 150 to 650. No Americans were reported killed, although two Abrams tanks and a Bradley fighting vehicle were destroyed by enemy fire. The American soldiers accomplished this even in the midst of a swirling, blinding sandstorm that grounded its scout and attack helicopters.</p>

Tel Aviv, Israel - It was a pretty quiet afternoon at the gas mask distribution center. The video describing how to use your gas mask played continuously, but usually with no one watching. No one stopped to look at the bulletin board display of gas mask equipment, which looked remarkably like a school science fair project. A trickle of people came in, bringing in their old gas masks, going through the process of exchanging them for updated equipment and listening attentively as an Israeli soldier showed them the proper technique for putting one on. If there didn't seem to be...

Hi all: I presently have several Israeli Simplex Gas Masks that I bought from The Sportsman's Guide a few years ago. http://www.sportsmansguide.com/ Doing an Internet search for Gas Masks, I see that there is a wide varaiation in prices - excluding the WWII Surplus masks, is there a real difference in how well they would work? I see that Safer America has the Draeger Kareta M Gas Mask for $199.00, the MSA Millenium Gas Mask for $339.00, and others in between. http://www.saferamerica.com/saProducts.asp?categoryID=13 I see that Platinum Defense seels the Israeli Gas Mask model 4A1 for $179.00. http://www.platinumdefense.com/noname1.html By contrast, I...

I was wondering if anyone had any links to websites with information on Gas Mask filters...of all types??? Without going into too much detail, I work on a federal reservation and I have been provided with several masks to hand out to my staff, including the M14 and M40A1 models, complete with standard military filter. I'm hearing from a source that the filter in the M14, a light olive green, unmarked model, has been with the mask since delivered some 12 years ago. I have no idea how long the M40A1 has been around, but the filters also look original....

FEARFUL Australian families are buying personal gas masks and other survival equipment to protect themselves against biological terror attacks. One company which sells gas masks has reported a 40 per cent increase in sales post September 11, while another sells 800 single-use escape masks a month. The increase in survival equipment sales comes as the world copes with a new terror threat following the discovery of traces of the deadly poison ricin in a London flat this week. British airports and ports are on high alert and hospitals and health authorities have been sent details of ricin symptoms following the...
