Mr. Trump said Tuesday that the U.S. had struck the boat in international waters after it had departed from Venezuela. Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth has reportedly authorized sending as many as 600 military lawyers to the Justice Department to serve as temporary immigration judges. The move was reported by the Associated Press, based on what the wire service said was an Aug. 27 memo it reviewed. The military will begin sending groups of 150 attorneys – military and civilian — as early as next week, the memo also states. The move comes as the Trump administration cracks down on illegal immigration, which has resulted in arrests, deportations and related court issues. There are now as many as 3.5 million cases...

Driscoll to formally establish a joint, interagency task force to counter hostile unmanned aerial systems, commonly referred to as drones. "Our job here at the Pentagon — when you think about it — is to prepare for the threats of the future and build a force to match them, and defeat them, and outpace them," Hegseth said via a video message released to the public. "And there's no doubt that the threats we face today from hostile drones grow by the day," he added. Noting that...

Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth reposted a CNN segment about a pastor who believes women should not vote on the social media platform X. The segment largely focuses on Pastor Doug Wilson, a Christian nationalist who cofounded the Communion of Reformed Evangelical Churches (CREC) in Idaho. The report shows Wilson advocating for a Christian nation and entertaining the idea that women should not vote. “I would like to see this nation being a Christian nation, and I would like this world to be a Christian world,” Wilson said. The clip also shows fellow pastor Toby Sumpter, saying, “In an ideal society,...

Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth has privately discussed the idea of running for political office next year in Tennessee, according to two people who have spoken directly with him about it. If Hegseth were to follow through on the discussions, it would amount to a major leadership shake-up at the department that oversees the American military and millions of federal employees. The Defense Department bars civilian employees from running for political office, meaning Hegseth would have to resign to do so. In a statement, Sean Parnell, the Pentagon’s chief spokesman, said, “Hegseth’s focus remains solely on serving under President Trump.” One...

The unexplained removal of the first female head of the U.S. Naval Academy last week is the latest in a string of top military women who have either been fired or moved to largely invisible roles under the Trump administration. The ousting of Vice Adm. Yvette Davids from her post as the first female superintendent of the academy in Annapolis, Md., makes her one of at least five senior female service members who have been moved out of their roles since January. That trend, coupled with Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth’s well-documented antipathy toward women in combat roles prior to becoming...

Hegseth’s team started administering polygraph tests to people around the defense secretary in April. The White House then intervened to stop the practice via a phone call by an individual close to the administration. The Post refused to...

Steven Stebbins took over as Acting Inspector General after President Trump fired the previous IG and 17 other inspectors general. Stebbins was first appointed to his position in 2015. Pete Hegseth has been under heavy attack since before his confirmation hearing and the leaks keep coming....

A Delta Connection Embraer E175 regional jet, operated by SkyWest Airlines as Flight 3788 from Minneapolis–Saint Paul to Minot International Airport, executed a sudden “aggressive maneuver” during its final approach to avoid a near-fatal mid‑air collision with a U.S. Air Force B‑52 bomber from nearby Minot Air Force Base. While on final approach from Minneapolis–Saint Paul, the Delta Connection crew received a last-second instruction from air traffic control to turn due to “inadequate separation.” During the turn, the pilot spotted the B‑52 rapidly converging and hauled the jet sharply behind it for safety.
