Pentagon chief Pete Hegseth has ordered Army Secretary Dan Driscoll to remove Col. Dave Butler from his current job serving as chief of Army Public Affairs and chief advisor to Driscoll, who is currently in Geneva serving on the negotiating team to end the Ukraine war, Fox News has learned.

Butler served as the head of public affairs for the Joint Chiefs when Gen. Mark Milley was chairman, and was slated to receive his first star. His name appeared for two years in a row on an Army list of 34 officers selected for promotion.

public affairs

Since the Bill Clinton era it's been a good idea to keep their affairs private, not public.

Butler served as the head of public affairs for the Joint Chiefs when Gen. Mark Milley was chairman“

That is reason enough to get rid of him.

“His name appeared for two years in a row on an Army list of 34 officers selected for promotion.”

Pretty sure they mean he screened, meaning he met the Brigadier General Qualification Board and was selected as “qualified for promotion to general officer”. It doesn’t mean he got a star and is now losing it. I was on that list 3 years out of 5 for the Air Force, but no GO slots came open during those periods.

Colonel, USAF JAGC (Ret)

MAJ Hegseth CIB knows what military sewage smells like ... and he knows how to operate the flush handle. I trust him implicitly as a general matter, even more so than his boss.

The exact reason for the firing was not provided.

I would bet this has more to do with Ukraine and what direction we are going.

Brining about peace will mean making concessions (Ukraine lost by ALL objective measures) and that’s a hard $hitpill to swallow.

On the other hand, I wouldn’t doubt that out of the public spotlight, other deals have been made, i.e. Russia backs out of Venezuela if we back out of Ukraine.

Where were the Russian military advisors, mercenaries (Wagner) which we knew where there, the technicians to keep the sophisticated weapon systems operating?

To that end:

Peace is a good thing. This is a huge money suck, a destabilizing agent, a political distraction (bigger fish to fry), and it was for NOTHING.

There was no pressing national security need for why Biden gave the green light to Ukraine’s NATO admission, the cause of this war: https://www.reuters.com/world/europe/ukrainian-president-zelenskiy-holding-talks-with-biden-adviser-says-2021-12-09/

Likewise, it was predictable that war would ensure, we had time to change course (3.5 months), AND it was predictable how this all would end.

Ukraine was a stupid mess which never should have happened.

I used to know the woman who was the NCOIC of the group who taught newly promoted Air Force generals how to be generals. I forget everything she said, that was more than twenty years ago.

All I really remember was that much of the work was with wives, educating them on what they were NOT allowed to do.

But unlike in China, they won’t be executed by a firing squad.

If he was one of Thoroughly Modern Milley’s guys, it’s a shame that he was kept around for more than a year.

It’s funny to me how this is even news at all. The guy must have been a real dirt bag caught leaking or complicit in sedition.

Ugh. Most media outlets, Fox included, know nothing about the military.

My ex was Air Force. I attended ONE wives’ function. Never went again. The wives were beasts; their entire identities were their husbands’ ranks. They had no lives of their own.

Pathetic.

"...that much of the work was with wives, educating them on what they were NOT allowed to do..."

LOL...my Dad was career Navy, and when I had more insight, I thought my poor dad must have been swimming upstream for many years because my mom was in no way a wilting flower, and was quick to offer opinions at parties that were thrown...:)

Once, I recall my dad made a comment about something done a certain way "for the good of the Naval Service" and she nearly spat on the ground while her dark eyes, a mix of Armenian and Italian heritage, flashed with anger and contempt!

She never could hide her emotions much, while my dad never let them out!

I wonder if this PR Colonel handled Milley’s apology for walking across the street with Trump in 2020? Milley and his whole staff should have been fired on the spot for that.
