This is not about Free Republic. Is it possible that board moderators can trace/track your every move? Are they able to find out who you are? If they ban you from posting on a forum/board, can they make it so that you are unable to read the web pages associated with that web site? Also, if a public school teacher is posting at a message board from school for a few hours each day, and she posts pictures of herself with the students, is that illegal? I am just curious because there is a homeschool message board that is banning...

One thing that I have noticed lately is that many local talk radio stations have some sort of forum where listeners can post their commments and discuss issues with other listeners. These forums are often small and under-utilized but, as there is not much traffic and the radio stations want these forums to grow, you have a high probability of getting something you posted read on the air. If you have something that you want to say and want to get a lot of people to hear you, check out some of these forums. One of my favorites is this...

The American Compass, meeting on C-Span, under Booknotes, 9-01-04, featured keynote speakers, who said that We now, have the "old media", and the "new media". It was explained the "old media", is the television stations, press, newspapers and so on. The "new" media is the blogs, forums, websites, that have become widespread and popular. The American Compass speakers said; The "old" media did not want to face or question Kerry's past, and that the Swifties and their book, "Unfit For Command", did the job, for getting past them.

Israel Turns to Internet During Earthquake, TerrorismBy Israel News Agency StaffJerusalem----February 11.....At 10:15 this morning, as many Israelis were sitting in their offices and homes working on their computers, keyboards and mice started to move. In fact, entire offices started to sway as Israel was being hit by a 5.0 earthquake. Immediately Israelis turned to the Net to get information. Israelis, who were accustomed for years to having small portable radios clued to their ears, now click into URL's after terror attacks and other major events that shake this part of the world. Not every desk has a radio or...

ALL ABOARD! Message boards tear into Halliburton By Shawn Langlois, CBS.MarketWatch.com Last Update: 3:55 PM ET Jan. 23, 2004 SAN FRANCISCO (CBS.MW) -- Halliburton's boards have seen a firestorm of political rhetoric since this whole Iraq thing began, but Friday's virtual melee reached a whole new level. The catalyst hit the wires early Friday in the form of a Wall Street Journal report that two Halliburton employees took $6 million in kickbacks for awarding a Kuwaiti-based company some lucrative work in Iraq. Sure, the guilty parties were fired and Halliburton shares (HAL: news, chart, profile) rallied nearly 3 percent, etc.,...

This is a question for those that know. Do the security agencies have a way to monitor private replys on this and other forums on the internet? If not, we may have a security breach that has not been addressed.

I wanted to know what a "Lurker" was. I Googled the tag and came across this website... The Lurker: " Lurker does not participate in normal forum discourse, but he's out there...watching, reading every message. Generally, he is quite harmless. In fact, his silence usually reflects a natural reticence rather than any sinister motives. He is content to let the other people haul the conversational freight and, if a fight breaks out he will observe quietly. Occasionally, however, some mysterious impulse drives him to de-lurk and attack. Other Warriors regard his unexpected assault as an ambush, and invariably turn on...

Los Angeles - A Los Angeles man who says he was libelled in eBay's "feedback" section of its website has sued the online auction house for refusing to remove statements he says damaged his reputation. Analysts say the case, sparked by an online sale of vintage Hollywood magazines, cuts to the heart of what makes eBay work: the power of buyers and sellers to keep an eye on each other. Robert Grace, publisher of a Los Angeles legal newspaper, sued eBay and Hollywood memorabilia dealer Tim Neeley this week in a California Superior Court after the website refused to remove...

PALO ALTO – When he discovered anti-Israeli propaganda in an Internet site devoted to baking bread, Doron Gal was dumfounded. It would seem that Islamic and anti-Israeli forces discovered the world wide web long before Israelis did, and they are running a well-oiled machine to create public opinion in cyberspace. For such purposes, a site on making cookies is just as good as a political vehicle. Asked why such groups infiltrate non-political sites, Gal, a doctor in geophysics and a co-founder of the startup DigiGroups, explains that like movie stars – bad publicity is better than no publicity at all....
