Wow, have I missed Free Republic! I've already punted Twitter... twice! Gab is shaping up, but sweet mercy! the crazies are going to tank it. Okay...I haven't posted in some time but just thought this was funny and had to post somewhere. I'm a bereaved father and author of several grief recovery and support books. I'm working on my sixth book now - this one discussing the return to work following the loss of a loved one. Regardless, I was just curious about the proper use of the words "toward" and "towards" and of course went off to the interwebs to research. There I came across the website Learner's Dictionary and got what I wanted (both correct - writer's choice...just use them the same throughout...

President Trump may not block even rude or obnoxious criticism from his Twitter account, because it is a public forum that is protected by the First Amendment, US District Court Judge Naomi Reice Buchwald has ruled. The President’s use of his Twitter account to comment on important policy, personnel and personal announcements made it a public forum, akin to a park or town square, she concluded.Blocking unwanted tweets is thus viewpoint discrimination, which public officials are not permitted to engage in. Indeed, his Twitter account is not just a public forum. It is also “government space,” and thus may not...

The WikiLeaks data dump, which consists of 8,761 files and documents, was taken from a high-security isolated network situated inside the CIA headquarters in Langley, Virginia. Within the data dump a folder called “Japanese Style Faces” can be found. These consist of ASCII expressions designed to represent faces and emotions, commonly used on internet message boards to denote a particular reaction. Some of the faces are listed below.

Currently, Topics are tied individual Forums, such that the 50 states (but not DC) show up as Topics for a thread posted in or moved to the GOP forum -- but the 50 states (and DC) show up as "US:(state name)" in threads posted in or moved to the News forum. Those state lists don't cross. Same goes for the duplicate Topics found in Chat and Blogger forums -- and those lists are all separate from one another. Keywords are available across all Forums. All three systems should be merged into a Tags system. Currently, the URL (which I still...

Others speculated...

Al-Qaeda’s main Web forums have been offline for the past 11 days in what experts say is the longest sustained outage of the sites since they began operating eight years ago. No one has publicly claimed responsibility for disabling the sites, but the breadth and the duration of the outages have prompted some experts to conclude the forums have been taken down in a cyberattack — launched perhaps by a government, government-backed organization or hacking group. The first Web site, Shumukh al-Islam, a primary source for al-Qaeda videos and messages, went down on March 22, and since then four others...

We know that the ending of the Guardian Unlimited Talkboards on Friday was an abrupt shock for the community that used them, and we are sorry for that. We didn't support them for over a decade lightly or casually, and we didn't close them suddenly in that vein either.
