My name is Ron to my FRiends and family.

I’m a former Marine MP and spent the rest of my adult life in law enforcement. In 2013 I lost my only child, my sixteen-year-old son Jonathan, to a rare heart condition. That loss changed everything. I would go on to publish seven books on men and grief — and finding a path to a purposeful life after loss. You can find them here on Amazon.

No matter what I was before, or what I become going forward, I will always be — first and foremost — a grieving father.

Beyond that, I’m a limited-government conservative (yes, all my firearms were tragically lost in a boating accident too). I first came to FR right after 9/11 as “BeltwayKnight,” stepped away for a while, and returned in 2008 as Irishpennant. I posted fairly often until Jonathan passed. Since then I’ve mostly lurked, grateful for the news and the company of good people during some very dark days.

If you’ve experienced a profound loss yourself, or you’re worried about a friend or family member who has, I’m here. I know how heavy this road can be, and I’m always willing to listen or talk — no charge, no agenda, just one dad who’s been there talking to another.
