Liberal forum looking for intellegent debaters
http://www.liberalnet.com/forums ^

www.liberalnet.com

I am looking for a few conservatives/Republicans that would like to take part in intellegent debate with the liberals on my forum. We do not want to get into shouting matches, we are just looking for some civil debate with some open-minded intellegent conservatives.

Thanks.

That's nice, but this post won't last long.

Plus, you really ought to learn how to spell the word "intelligent" if you're going to use it so frequently.

Thats too bad.. forums are boring if everybody agrees on everything. Thats why I need some people who disagree with me.

There are seldom any Free Republic posts in which we are all in agreement on an issue. Shouting matches here happen all the time. Old-timers get suspended just as easily as newbies when they go too far. If you want intelligent debate, why not just stick around here?

I figured I would get banned instantly for being such a hard core liberal on this site.

The night is young.

Actually, liberals are not banned for merely being liberal -- but expressing liberal opinions, especially as a newbie, and especially by starting new threads instead of replying to others, tends to make the mods & other Freepers suspect that the person is merely interested in disrupting FR rather than engaging in sincere discussion. We DO get a lot of "trolls."

In other words, if liberals lurk for a while and get a feel for atmosphere of the place, they can survive... though I don't know why they'd really want to. A liberal on FR must feel like a flat-earther would on the International Space Station: out of their element & constantly confronted with their own ignorance.

Trust me, not everyone agrees.
Besides which, agreement isn't the point of some threads here.
Humor is the point of those odd threads.

But, debate isn't on the minds of some who come here asking to debate.
So do be aware that there is a certain amount of suspicion on those asking to debate.

Since I haven't checked out your site, I have absolutely no way of knowing if you are a hard-core liberal or not. You could be a hard core piece of cheese and I wouldn't know it.

The problem with a lot of liberals who get themselves banned from the forum is that they come here thinking that they can somehow change our minds. Not easily done. I can think of many former libs who are now quite conservative (we bury a great one today, don't we?). I cannot think of a single past conservative that is now a liberal. Republican to Democrat, yes...conservative to liberal, no. Not a single one. Some libs who get banned from the forum get so frustrated at their total inability to sway our thinking that their misplaced passions get the better of their decency and they post something inexcuseable. ZOT soon follows.

Just one piece of advice I can give you: vBulletin is not the way to go. That's all.

Being liberal does not get one banned. Being very rude, swearing or just way out of line insulting does. Many freeper talk to each other pretty harshly at times. It can be a tough crowd because we disagree greatly among ourselves. I like a good debate. If you feel like you want to join in I see no reason you should not be welcome. Just have a lead lined suit handy.

Haha. I am really looking for people who want to post, not just a bunch of people who respond with one word answers like the people I have there now.

It's less clunky and easy to get used to, IMHO.

Let's pretend, shall we?

Imagine I just happened across your site without knowledge of this thread, and what catches my eye in the links and recommended reading?

No wonder all your threads consists of gutteral grunts. You're advertising for it.

OK, If Franken, Moore, and Carville are "gutteral grunts" then will you concede that so are Ann Coulter, Michael Savage, and Sean Hannity?

The "gutteral grunts" refers to the one word responses you mentioned.

Gotcha... I can respect a well-thought out conservative opinion more than a leftist one-liner anyday.
