A driver in North Carolina told emergency responders that a bald eagle dropped a cat that crashed through her windshield, police said. The incident happened around 8:15 a.m. Wednesday on U.S. Route 74 in Swain County, North Carolina Highway Patrol said. The driver was not injured. HAMPTON — A local man is facing criminal charges after allegedly admitting to police that he killed a cat with a shotgun near his home back in November. Jeffrey Lee Eiras, 54, Hampton, was arrested last week on charges of cruelty to animals and unauthorized use of firearms/firecrackers. Eiras was arraigned on the charges at Hampton District Court on March 1. Police said the investigation began after they received a call from a concerned neighbor about the alleged incident that occurred at Eiras' home on Winnacunnet Road, near Locke Road, around 5 p.m. on Nov. 8, 2009.
