Not long ago, I got to know a very interesting person, who turned out to be a typically very confused liberal democrat. They can't hide all that anger and confusion behind their favorite slogan of "conservatives are full of hate!" for long. It's heartbreaking to watch such promise and talent and basic decency become wasted and used. Once, during a rare lucid, calm moment, he said to me that no one, the government or any powers that be, cared anything about him, because in the scheme of things, he was just a 'little fish'.
