PEMBROKE PINES, Fla. – Among the green landscape of CB Smith Park in Pembroke Pines was something that stuck out just a bit on Thursday. Actually, quite a lot. Park goers were shocked to see two pigeons whose feathers had been dyed pink. “They are now just a bright target for predator animals,” said Susan Oddo with Palm Beach Parrot and Bird Rescue. The bizarre sight is no laughing matter according to Oddo. Her rescue has taken in another bird with dyed feathers that was also captured in the area of Pembroke Pines. “These are animals that are raised in...

If nothing else comes of it, the latest round of Pakistani aggression against India served as yet another signal to the U.S. that the time has come to cut its losses and walk away from Afghanistan. On February 14, a Pakistani terrorist from Jaish-e-Mohammad terrorist organization, infiatrated the Indian side of the disputed Jammu and Kashmir province and murdered more than forty Indian paramilitary forces in a suicide bombing..... Regarding China, however, even as this concern informed U.S. decisionmakers, Pakistan expanded its strategic and political ties with China. In 2016, 63 percent of Pakistan’s foreign military assistance was Chinese....

Balloon-ey!: Vatican takes wrong lesson from dove attack by Daniel Clark On the last Sunday of January, the Vatican released the balloons of peace from St. Peter’s Square. You probably recognize this as a biblical allusion to the Great Flood, when Noah released a balloon that returned to him with an olive leaf in its beak. Mind you, balloons don’t have beaks, which is what made it so miraculous. Pope John Paul II had started an annual tradition of releasing two doves on that particular day, but last year when Pope Francis let the birds loose, a crow and a...

Raising doves and pigeons is a deadly pursuit in ISIS-controlled Iraq. The popular hobby is in the sights of extremist Islamist fighters, who this week rounded up 15 boys and young men in the eastern province of Diyala for pursuing a pastime now deemed un-Islamic. Three have already been executed. The recent crackdown on bird breeders stems from ISIS' need for new fighters to battle the Iraqi and Syrian governments, as well as residents' growing desperation, according to the security official. Suspicion of bird-breeders stems from the fact they tend to feed their animals at the same time devout Muslims...

I tied two bells to one of our cats to keep her from going after cats, but she still got one this morning. I rescued the bird, but now he can't really fly. He let me pick him up and put him in, ironically, a cat carrier. So I'm looking for advice. He's resting comfortably now. How soon should I try to feed him? What about water, small cup or big bowl? He's mostly white, with a little bit of grey.

This is an animated video of a dove that we see in most back yards. As a child, I with a slingshot, 22 rifle and 12 gage shot gun, killed many kinds of birds just to see if I could aim good and bring the little creature to the ground. I didn’t kill for food but in adolescent behavior. It is so cruel and for this reason I created this video to show and teach the cruelty of this kind of behavior.

Over-learning the lessons of the last war is a classic foreign policy blunder. Yet many liberals want to make the lessons of the Iraq debacle the central basis of American foreign policy… But this is the flip side of the same impulse that got us into the current mess. Because the doves made so many bad predictions leading up to the Gulf War — remember the mass uprisings in the Arab world and tens of thousands of U.S. casualties? — many of us ignored warnings this time that proved more prescient. There are many lessons to be absorbed from Iraq....

Show Us Your Dove Recipes and Prove Anti-Hunters Wrong- (08/28) Michigan Join our e-mail alert list In their quest to ban dove hunting in Michigan by ballot in November, anti-hunters have stated repeatedly that doves are not eaten by hunters, giving the impression that they are left in the field to rot. The U.S. Sportsmen’s Alliance wants sportsmen across the country to prove the anti-hunters wrong by submitting their best dove recipe and perhaps winning a sportsmen’s prize package for doing so. Anti-hunting groups in Michigan have created a campaign of misinformation designed to win the votes of urban-dwellers and...

WASHINGTON -- With the defeat of Joe Lieberman in the Democratic primary in Connecticut, anti-war forces are poised for a takeover of the Democratic Party. Tuesday's exhilarating victory, and the elan and electoral legitimacy gained, may carry the newly energized Democratic left to considerable success in November. But for the Democratic Party it will be an expensive and short-lived indulgence. The Iraq War will end, as will the Bush presidency. But the larger conflict that defines our times -- war on Islamic radicalism, more politely known as the war on terror -- will continue, as the just-foiled London airliner plot...

CRAWFORD, Texas (CNN) -- Anti-war protesters outside President Bush's ranch here were startled Sunday by gunshots fired by a Texas rancher frustrated by the group's presence. "Well, I'm getting ready for dove season," Larry Mattlage, 62, told reporters of the shots fired around 10 a.m. (noon EDT). Asked if there was an underlying message to the shots, which he fired harmlessly into the air, Mattlage told a reporter, "Figure it out for yourself." The protesters are led by Cindy Sheehan, a California woman whose son was killed in Iraq, and who has vowed to remain outside of Bush's ranch until...

Proposed hunting regulations add two species to limits Two new species of dove spreading across Colorado could be dodging shotgun blasts this fall under a change in hunting regulations being considered by the Colorado Wildlife Commission. The Eurasian collared-dove and the white-winged dove, two birds whose numbers are on the rise, may be added to the list of species that are legal to hunt this month by the commission. Gunnison hunter Pat Reilly, who said he was startled to find a small flock of collared-doves in town this winter, said regulations are needed. "They're going to be shot by dove...

Regardless of whether it came through clearly in Thursdays debate, the gap between Republicans and Democrats on foreign policy has reached truly alarming proportions. Not even during the 1980s, when deep divisions separated hawkish Republicans like Ronald Reagan from dovish Democrats like John Kerry on issues like Central America and the nuclear freeze, did our two parties disagree as much over Americas place and proper course in the world. Evidence comes from an opinion survey conducted by Gallup for the German Marshall Fund of the United States and summarized in a recent issue of The Weekly Standard magazine. Ostensibly designed...

Granholm signs bill to allow hunters to shoot doves By AMY F. BAILEY The Associated Press 6/18/2004, 2:45 p.m. ET LANSING, Mich. (AP) — Hunters could begin shooting mourning doves in six Michigan counties that border Indiana and Ohio as early as this fall. Gov. Jennifer Granholm signed a bill Friday that changes the dove's classification from a song bird to a game bird. Liz Boyd, spokeswoman for the Democratic governor, said Granholm signed it based on a promise made by Natural Resources Commission Chairman Keith Charters to recommend that the seven-member commission approve a three-year trial mourning dove hunt...

(CP) -- Quebec's population minister created a flap Friday when he admitted he and some buddies recently killed 18,000 doves and pigeons during a hunting trip in Argentina. In January, I wrote that North Korea's "Dear Leader" Kim needs to be surrounded by a ring of fire. A task force set up by the New York-based Council on Foreign Relations came to a similar conclusion this week. Headed by veteran U.S. diplomats Morton Abramowitz, retired undersecretary of state, and James T. Laney, America's former ambassador to South Korea, the task force released a report listing military options, including a naval blockade as well as selective air strikes against known nuclear facilities. Selective air strikes! Fancy that. Hawk as I am on the subject of grim police states, including...
