Krauthammer: Democrats as Myopic Doves, Again
Washington Post Writers Group ^ | August 11, 2006 | Charles Krauthammer

Posted on 08/11/2006 2:48:03 AM PDT by RWR8189

WASHINGTON -- With the defeat of Joe Lieberman in the Democratic primary in Connecticut, anti-war forces are poised for a takeover of the Democratic Party. Tuesday's exhilarating victory, and the elan and electoral legitimacy gained, may carry the newly energized Democratic left to considerable success in November.

But for the Democratic Party it will be an expensive and short-lived indulgence. The Iraq War will end, as will the Bush presidency. But the larger conflict that defines our times -- war on Islamic radicalism, more politely known as the war on terror -- will continue, as the just-foiled London airliner plot unmistakably reminds us. And the reflexive anti-war sentiments underlying Ned Lamont's victory in Connecticut will prove disastrous for the Democrats in the long run -- the long run beginning as early as November '08.

Consider an analogy that the anti-war types hold dear: Iraq as Vietnam. I reject the premise, but let's assume it for the purpose of following the political consequences of anti-war movements.

The anti-Vietnam War movement had its political successes. They were, as in Connecticut last Tuesday, mostly internecine. One Democratic presidency was destroyed (Lyndon Johnson), as was the presidential candidacy of his would-be successor, Hubert Humphrey.

Like Iraq, Vietnam was but one theater in a larger global struggle -- that struggle against the Soviet Union and its communist clients around the world -- and by the early 1970s, the newly reshaped McGovernite party had to face the larger post-Vietnam challenges of the Cold War. The result? Political disaster.

"Vietnam cost the Democrats 40 years in the foreign policy wilderness. Anti-Iraq sentiment gave the anti-war Democrats a good night on Tuesday, and may yet give them a good year or two. But beyond that, it will be desolation"

The Democratic Party is just doing what it has so proudly done since Vietnam--

GIVING ENCOURAGEMENT, and 'AID-AND-COMFORT' TO THE ENEMIES OF THE UNITED STATES DURING TIME OF WAR.

Incredible as it may seem, though, it is continuing its movement even further to the far-left. Sen. Lieberman's defeat is great news for the Republicans--as it HIGHLIGHTS how far 'over-the-top' the Democratic Party has gone. The bane of the Democratic Party in national elections is its weakness on national defense and national security--while pushing a its policy of APPEASEMENT of our enemies.

Lamont's election highlights 'all of the above'!

These are Nicholas Berg democrats. He felt his good intentions would shield him too.

"But the larger conflict that defines our times -- war on Islamic radicalism, more politely known as the war on terror -- will continue,..."

Islamic radicalism, Islamists, or other euphemism, but never just Islam. Is there truly any such thing as moderate Islam, or are they merely laying low while others do the dirty work?

I see some occasional condemnations of terrorist actions, but they strike me as luke warn at best.

Even when they speak out, they refer to themselves as victims. Not victims of the islamofascist but as victims of the west and our failure to accomodate them ( read that as failing to bow down)

Only those who have left the cult and its way of life actually speak against it.

Moderate muslims are in my view as dangerous as those that wreak havoc. It's their complicit silence and cowardice that hide and shield the barbarians in our midst.

I believe that there are moderate Muslims in places like Turkey and Kurdish areas of northern Iraq. And many in Iran long for the freedom they had before Jimmy Carter sold out the Shah to the Ayatolla. I also believe the vast majority of the Muslims that have immigrated to Europe and North America are nothing more than a great big sleeper cell biding their time.

I think that the Muslims that immigrate to the US are generally of a more moderate breed than those who go to Europe.

To get here you have to be more affluent, and once you get here you have a much greater chance of success. IIRC Bush carried the Muslim vote by a wide margin in 2000.

However in Europe the Muslims are often much poorer and easier drawn to radicalism. Not to mention the lack of opportunities offered by the stagnant socialism that exists in most of Western Europe.

Radical Islam is an insane murder cult.
Moderate Islam is its Trojan Horse in the West.

"I think there are moderate Muslims, they are even the large majority, but I do not believe there is a moderate Islam,"

What we are going through is a forced Islamic Reformation much as the Catholic/Protestant wars of 17th century Europe ended the Spanish Inquisition.

Most Catholics are now pussycats.

Does the phrase "myopic dove" remind you of anyone? Something tells me that the 12th District incumbent will be smashed by Deranged Dove backlash this Fall.

DemocRats will lose seats in both houses, their glee of sacking thier own the anti America, anti counter terrorist and loony judges they rely on, is a mine field in their quest to regain the congress.

Just a thought.

From what I heard from a British newscast, it was a Muslim who turned the authorities focus onto these terrorists.

I generally agree that many groups "outrage" at Islamofacists is luke warm, but there are those individuals that are willing to put it into action. I just hope that those who do help us aren't risking a backlash (ie their necks) from their fellow Muslims.

Continental Europe is overrun by Turks and Algerians and Muslims from the Mahgrib. The United States community has a more Levantine flavor. The United States also has offered a home to hundreds of thousands of Chaldeans, the Iraqi Christians who have no love for their former Muslim masters; they have been very useful in the war on terrorism.

Myopic doves, the Democrats are not. Democrats are cold blodded Marxists who will kill us all if they are allowed to continue. A pox on all of them.

"DemocRats will lose seats in both houses..."

I hope you are right but current polls are showing just the opposite. The American sheeple are following the Dems siren song of appeasement and surrender at their own peril. I really believe that this is the most important mid-term election in the history of our nation. If the Democrats take control of congress chaos (impeachment proceedings, military retreat and unimaginable higher taxes) will follow.
