Residents of Illinois will be able to renew their driver’s licenses and get new vehicle stickers while they are grocery shopping following the installation of several “fast lane” Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) kiosks in stores, officials announced Thursday. Secretary of State Alexi Giannoulias (D) began rolling out the pilot program this week by deploying 12 kiosks in the Chicago area and three downstate, his office said in a press release. The locations of the kiosks include Mariano’s, Jewel-Osco, Kroger, and Meijer grocery stores.

WW has learned Oregon Driver & Motor Vehicle Services, which licenses drivers in the state, has mistakenly placed more than 300 non-citizens on the voting rolls since 2021. Officials believe that 306 people without citizenship were registered to vote through a data entry error, but they believe just two of them actually cast ballots. Nearly a decade ago, Oregon passed a motor voter law, which automatically registered people to vote when they sought a new license (and were 18 or over) or renewed an existing one. Then, in 2019, the Legislature passed a law that allowed certain people without proof...

Over the weekend, I took my daughter and her best friend on a day trip from Northern Virginia to Hico, West Virginia. In a matter of 120 minutes, you pass from one of the statistically wealthiest areas in the United States to some of the most destitute roadside neighborhoods you’ll see in the region. The friend asked why it's like this in West Virginia, and all I could think to say in response was, “All your friends back in Northern Virginia, what do their parents do for work?” It didn’t take her long. She responded, “Oh like mostly the Pentagon,...

Officials within a police department in Maine warned that they have seen an “uptick” in fake social security numbers being used for driver’s licenses. Darcy Valido, the communications assistant director of operations for the Sanford Regional Communications Center within the Sanford Police Department, sent an email warning that officials had seen an increase in the Bureau of Motor Vehicles (BMV) issuing driver’s licenses that are “using 999-99-9999” as the social security number, according to Maine Wire. “We’ve seen an uptick in DMV using 999-99-9999 for social security numbers,” Valido wrote in a May 23 email to several police departments in...

Department of Motor Vehicles facilities across the country reported outages on Thursday, impacting appointments and services in multiple states, officials said. Illinois secretary of state Alexander Giannoulias wrote in a post on X, formerly Twitter, that they are "currently experiencing a nationwide network outage at our DMV facilities," adding: "All DMVs across the country are currently down." In a press release, Colorado's DMV said it was reaching out to impacted state residents who have appointments at a State Driver License Office to reschedule "due to a national outage with the American Association of Motor Vehicle Administrators." "Most driver license services,...

The three-week-old Israel-Hamas war has sparked protests by some high school students in Fairfax County, Virginia. Students, with their principals’ permission, have been walking out of classes for brief rallies on school grounds. Scores of students at Mount Vernon High School crowded the school’s main plaza at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday and spent a half-hour chanting and rallying for the Palestinian people, especially the children. The students hoisted homemade signs and unfurled the Palestinian flag. There was a similar student protest earlier in the day at Edison High School. Other student rallies are expected Thursday at Woodson and Falls Church high...

A revoked Nevada license plate that was meant to “drive away” Californians is getting one last chance to go back on the streets. The plate — which reads “GOBK2CA,” short for “Go back to California” — was recalled by the state Department of Motor Vehicles in May after it received a complaint, KOLO-TV first reported. Now the vehicle owner is appealing the recall and will have a hearing on Wednesday, according to the Reno-area news station. A section of the Nevada Administrative Code applied to the recall prohibits defamatory references to a person or group. “In this case, the defamed...

The Oregon DMV knew about the problem, but it "wasn't at a high enough level to understand the urgency" of the need to fix it.Nicholas Chappelle spent almost a year in an Oregon prison after he was wrongfully convicted of driving with a suspended license. The reason for his incarceration? A shoddy DMV database. And the worst part is he's not alone. While it's unclear just how many Oregonians have been wrongfully arrested or convicted due to errors in the database, at least 3,000 licenses have been mislabeled as indefinitely suspended. At least five wrongful arrests or convictions have been...

BUFFALO, N.Y. — New legislation regarding bicycle safety will come into effect as Gov. Kathy Hochul takes measures that will require new drivers to learn about pedestrian and bicycle safety when on the road. This new requirement will be apart of new drivers pre-licensing exam and will be a prerequisite to obtaining any motor vehicle license. "My top priority as Governor is to keep New Yorkers safe, and it is common sense to make pedestrian and bike safety education mandatory for drivers," Governor Hochul said in a statement. "This law will help prevent crashes and save lives, and I thank...

This is how I feel this fine Caturday:That’s not an aura, it’s a visual manifestation of a force field comprised of nerve endings that you don’t want to get within 6 feet of (it’s for your own safety). Here is an alternate, less disturbing, illustration. It’s a postmodern interpretation, somewhat amusing but the complete opposite of reality as everyone knows the pins should be the other way around. An ironic, postmodern cactus pin cushionIn other words, I don’t feel like being messed with today. But be sure to come back tomorrow when I will describe my recent trip to the DMV....

lol this thread is something else. An attorney thinks you should be able to show up at a DMV with an out-of-state license, and get an in-state ID / voter registration without bringing proof of address in your own name. This is “voter suppression”?

A Missouri taxi company will not provide transportation to people who have been vaccinated against COVID-19 or are wearing masks. "We don't allow any type of masks in our vehicles," Yo Transportation owner Charlie Bullington told KMOV in an interview. "The second one, we're very against the vaccines, and we do not wish to have people in our vehicle that did the vaccines." Bullington said that, prior to pickup, he verifies that his passengers have not been vaccinated and will be wearing a face covering. The company's website said that it offers rides in Franklin, Jefferson, Lincoln, Montgomery, St. Charles,...

Jacque Trevini loves her vintage Porsche and says it gets lots of looks when she's driving down the road. "Well, it's a 1963 Porsche 356. And it's obviously red," she jokingly told 3 On Your Side. "People always wave or give a thumbs up when I’m driving. Little kids love it." But the car's Arizona registration has become a big problem. That's because when Jacque and her husband tried to re-register it recently, employees at the MVD office said, "No." And the reason, was jaw dropping. "We took the paperwork, and they looked at us and said that it doesn't...

New Jersey’s governor tried to be understanding Tuesday when the state’s Motor Vehicle Commission offices reopened – with long lines and arguments among customers following a long coronavirus-related shutdown. While police in New York have been enforcing social distancing and stay-at-home orders in the last few weeks of the coronavirus pandemic, the state effectively worked to “criminalize” part of their jobs. A U.S. Attorney in New York accused Democratic Gov. Andrew Cuomo of “legislating obstruction” with a law that bans police from sharing Department of Motor Vehicles information with federal immigration agencies. New York’s Green Light Law was passed last year allowing a driver’s license to anyone without legal immigration status, and now the approved 2020 budget has added an eyebrow-raising amendment. While the Green Light Law prohibited the...
