The drama around Washington Commanders owner Dan Snyder is escalating to new levels. A bombshell ESPN report on Thursday morning details how Snyder and his fellow owners are moving toward a showdown that could ultimately lead to his ouster. The story alleges that Snyder has been digging up dirt on his fellow owners, including allegedly hiring private investigators through his law firms, in a brazen attempt to keep control of his scandal-scarred franchise and has enough information to “blow up” several of them. One owner told the website that Snyder told him he “has dirt on Jerry Jones,” his one-time...

Commanders owner Dan Snyder believes he has enough “dirt” on fellow NFL owners, commissioner Roger Goodell and league officials that he could “blow up” several people and organizations, ESPN’s Don Van Natta Jr., Seth Wickersham and Tisha Thompson reported Thursday. “He’s backed into a corner,” a veteran owner told the network. “He’s behaving like a mad dog cornered.” ESPN’s report comes at a time when the embattled owner is facing investigations from the league and a congressional committee looking into workplace misconduct in the franchise. Yet, Snyder reportedly told associates he does not plan to lose the Washington team “without...

Hiring more men to help with public sexual harassment issues seems like a very funny Band-Aid to the organization’s problems.I picked up my first pair of pompoms at seven years old. Cheerleading is my absolute favorite sport. Cheerleaders on every level do not get the respect they deserve. I know from experience. The Washington Football Team’s decision to nix its cheerleading squad is deeply wrong. At schools, cheerleaders run the pep rallies, decorate, and cheer alongside the band on game night. We put in just as many practices—if not more—than participants of other sports. We cheer, chant, throw things into...

A leader of the Navajo Code Talkers who appeared at a Washington Redskins home football game said Wednesday the team name is a symbol of loyalty and courage — not a slur as asserted by critics who want it changed. Roy Hawthorne, 87, of Lupton, Ariz., was one of four Code Talkers honored for their service in World War II during the Monday night game against the San Francisco 49ers. Hawthorne, vice president of the Navajo Code Talkers Association, said the group's trip was paid for by the Redskins. The four men met briefly with team owner Dan Snyder but...

Sen. Elizabeth Warren is calling out Washington Redskins owner Dan Snyder, and this time it has nothing to do with his football team’s name. In a tweet Saturday, the Massachusetts senator and 2020 presidential candidate used Snyder’s recent purchase of a $100 million yacht as evidence that the super-wealthy could afford to pay her recently proposed wealth tax. As the Washington Post reported, the 305-foot ship is believed to be the first “superyacht” with a certified Imax theater. “This billionaire NFL owner just paid $100M for a ‘superyacht’ with its own Imax theater,” Warren wrote. “I’m pretty sure he can...

Washington Redskins owner Dan Snyder is not a particularly admirable man. He tends to treat the Redskins as if he’s playing fantasy football. They tend to lose more often than they win. He’s not exactly a fan favorite. But Snyder isn’t taking the U.S. Patent Office’s ruling against his team lying down. The team has released a statement saying the ruling “will have no effect at all on the team’s ownership of and right to use the Redskins’ name/logo”. They’re correct, but it does allow others to use the name as they wish…the just can’t trademark it either. Which, in...

Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-Nev.) weighed in on Washington Redskins owner Dan Snyder’s new foundation to help Native Americans on Thursday and slammed the controversial owner for ‘throwing a few blankets at the Indians’ to get a nice tax break.Reid made the comments about Snyder’s decision to create the Washington Redskins Original Americans Foundation in an interview with The Washington Post.“Dan Snyder, he’s got a great new deal,†the Senate Majority Leader said. “He’s going to throw a few blankets to the Indians and get a tax deduction for it.â€In the late 1700s, Europeans fighting in the French and Indian...

Pelosi: Redskins should change name By Bob Cusack - 10/28/13 06:00 AM ET Rep. Nancy Pelosi believes the Washington Redskins should find a new name. In an interview with The Hill, the California Democrat said it “probably would be a good idea if they change the name.” The House minority leader is the latest politician who has embraced a name change. President Obama earlier this month said he would “think about changing” the team name if he owned the football team. Pelosi noted that when she was growing up in Baltimore, the city didn’t have a football team. “So one...

In what could be the most bizarre development in the ongoing debate over the Washington Redskins nickname, TMZ reports that a neighbor of team owner Dan Snyder, Aris Mardirossian, has trademarked the name "Washington Bravehearts." The report states that the trademark application filed by Mardirossian says that he plans to use the name for "entertainment in the nature of football games." Mardirossian, who reportedly lives on the same block as Snyder in Potomac, Md., is an affluent patent investor who developed a relationship with Snyder a few years ago when the two men battled the county in an effort to...

Debt-ridden amusement park operator Six Flags, controlled by Washington Redskins owner Dan Snyder, has filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy reorganization. The New York-based chain of parks has been trying unsuccessfully this year to renegotiate terms with lenders on hundreds of millions of dollars in debt. Six Flags parks, including its Six Flags Great Escape and Indoor Water Park in Queensbury, will continue to operate as usual under reorganization. “The current management team inherited a $2.4 billion debt load that cannot be sustained, particularly in these challenging financial markets,” said Six Flags chief executive Mark Shapiro in a statement. “As a...

It always seems like it’s one step forward and two steps back for the Washington Redskins. With the departure of Joe Gibbs today, there is only one thing left to say: "Dan Snyder, please sell this team!" If you are the loyal Redskins fan that you profess to be, Mr. Snyder, you must know that all the attributes that make you a brilliant businessman are the same qualities that are driving this football team down. If you truly love this team and you are a true fan, sell it so there is at least a chance that the Redskins will...

I know about losing teams. I root for a lot of them. In 49 years, I have seen the San Francisco Giants in the World Series twice (that I remember). The first was 1989, when they were swept by the Oakland A’s in the earthquake series. I watched every out. They never led. And 2002, in Game 6, up by five and needing six outs and couldn’t do it. Don’t even get me started on 1993, when they won 103 games and didn’t make the playoffs. I was born in Massachusetts, so it all starts there with the Red Sox....

Dan Snyder is supporting Robert Redford’s eloquent anti-war film, "Lions for Lambs." The owner of the Washington Redskins, a heavy Republican donor and business partner of an even bigger one, Snyder sent this column an endorsement on Saturday. Snyder's PR guy, Karl Swanson, forwarded this e-mail to FOXNews.com: "'Lions for Lambs' causes Snyder no 'uneasy moments,'" Snyder wrote in reaction to a column I wrote here on Friday. Dan Snyder "and a group of friends screened it 10 days ago and he found the film engaging and intelligent and the performances riveting." The fact that Snyder — a major donor...

Bach might be back on Washington's airwaves, even if the region's only classical music station, WGMS, drops the format. Public broadcaster WETA (90.9 FM) is considering dumping its news-and-talk programming and returning to being a classical broadcaster if the music dies on WGMS, WETA's management said yesterday. In a special meeting Thursday, WETA's board voted to give station executives the green light to consider switching back to classical if WGMS drops the format. Dan DeVany, WETA's vice president and general manager, said the station "could move very quickly" back to classical if circumstances warrant.

Dan Snyder has an obligation to maximize the profit-margin line of the Washington Redskins. That is what those in business do. They are forever taking the pulse of the marketplace and determining where they can wrest further profits from the operation. The trick is to forge a balance between cost and demand, which Snyder has managed well in his stewardship of the Redskins. He undoubtedly overreached in the personnel end of the team in his first few years, but he has turned the Redskins into one of the most valuable franchises in all of sports. The latest ticket hike of...

Snyder is the real problem with the Washington Redskins, and it's a problem no coaching change or roster move will fix. For the Redskins to become a better team, Snyder has to become a better owner.
