If someone uses big words to sound smart, they’re probably not. If someone speaks in clichés, they might be lacking original thought. Understanding human communication isn’t always simple. In fact, navigating the labyrinth of human conversation requires more than just a good ear. It also requires an understanding of certain speech patterns and phrases. Now, some folks have a knack for this. They can hear a few words and immediately gauge the intelligence of the speaker. In this article, let’s delve into 8 phrases that, more often than not, are used by people with below-average intelligence in everyday conversation.

Friday, during Fox News Channel’s “Hannity,” Sen. Markwayne Mullin (R-OK) discussed the difficulty of working with people on the other side of the aisle when their political beliefs and ambitions are not compatible with reality. The Oklahoma Republican said the hurdles included Sen. Bernie Sanders’ (I-VT) and Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez’s (D-NY) beliefs in socialism and Sen. Chris Murphy’s (D-CT) presidential ambitions. “Now, the delusion among the leading Democratic Party is almost hard to believe,” host Sean Hannity said. “Why can’t they just be honest with the American people? I don’t know. That would be refreshing. Here to help answer that...

Sen. John Fetterman (D-PA) described recent talks about the United States acquiring Greenland as being a “responsible conversation.” During an interview on Fox News on Tuesday, Fetterman admitted that while he “would never support” taking Greenland “by force,” it would be a “responsible conversation” to talk about acquiring Greenland from Denmark, including “buying it outright.” Fetterman’s words come after President-elect Donald Trump has previously stated that the U.S. taking ownership of Greenland is an “absolute necessity” for national security and freedom. “There’s a lot of talk about Greenland, for example, and, I know there’s a lot of freakouts and of...

How did this happen? That’s the question every Democrat should be asking today....... Instead, talk to people who voted for Trump. We haven’t done nearly enough of that. Instead, we have too often assumed that Trump voters are racist, sexist, transphobic or just stupid. I mean, what else could bring someone to vote for him? That’s what we need to find out. But if our opening gambit is that they’re morally or cognitively warped, we never will. When Trump won the first time, in 2016, I organized a conversation between students at the University of Pennsylvania — where I teach...

Speaking to reporters Wednesday, the president falsely claimed that Russia is at war with Iraq. Russia is at war with Ukraine. Russian President Vladimir Putin is “clearly losing the war in Iraq,” Biden told the press pool, “losing the war at home. And he has become a bit of a pariah around the world.” On Tuesday, during an unrelated fundraising event in Chevy Chase, Md., Biden had made the exact same slip-up, mistaking Ukraine for Iraq. “If anybody told you … that we’d be able to bring all of Europe together in the onslaught on Iraq and get NATO to...

CNN anchor Jake Tapper took a beating on social media for suggesting that no “national conversation” happened over the potential damage that school closures could have on children. During a segment of CNN Tonight on Friday, Tapper confessed to feeling “surprised” by the fact nobody discussed the lockdown damage on children, even though conservatives were rightly doing that in the early days of the pandemic. Tapper also further called for a “bipartisan movement” to address the educational crisis.

During an interview aired on Wednesday’s broadcast of MSNBC’s “11th Hour,” Pennsylvania Lt. Gov. and U.S. Senate candidate John Fetterman (D) responded to a question on why he turned down his Republican opponent, Dr. Mehmet Oz’s invitation to debate and if the two will debate before the election by stating he’ll “engage” when the Oz campaign has “a serious conversation” but “right now, the fact that they have chosen to have a deeply unserious campaign to just ridicule somebody that is just recovering from a stroke.” Host Stephanie Ruhle asked, “You turned down Dr. Oz’s invitation to debate. What made...

Republican Arkansas Gov. Asa Hutchinson expressed his willingness for a “conversation” on raising the minimum age to purchase a semiautomatic rifle from 18 to 21 and “AR-15-style weapons” amid fresh talks on gun reform following a deadly mass shooting in Texas last week. Hutchinson told CNN’s John Berman on Tuesday that he supported an ongoing bipartisan dialogue between a group of U.S. senators to potentially draft new gun control legislation. Hutchinson said one area the bipartisan congressional group should look at is “the AR-15-style weapons,” and whether the minimum age to purchase one should be raised.

Featuring Theodore Roosevelt, Cleopatra, Thomas Aquinas, and Thomas Paine. While speaking to my Father-in-Law this afternoon he mentioned this program in passing, so I decided to look it up. Now that I have watched the first episode of the first season, I cannot help but think there are some FReepers who would greatly enjoy not only the content but also the concept. It is said that the writers attempted to make use of the historic figures' own words as much as possible. I cannot imagine today's entertainment industry taking such an interest in the ideas discussed here, but can certainly...

Senate Majority Leader Charles Schumer (D-N.Y.) said he and GOP Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.) had a “good conversation” about raising the debt ceiling and that talks are ongoing as Congress barrels toward a debt cliff. Schumer, speaking on the Senate floor, said Congress needed to deal with the debt ceiling “soon,” after Treasury Secretary Janet Yellen warned lawmakers that they have until Dec. 15 to raise the nation’s borrowing limit. “I recently had a good conversation with the Republican leader about this issue, and I expect to continue those talks on achieving a bipartisan solution to addressing the debt limit,”...

Sen. Elizabeth Warren (D-MA) on Thursday delivered a speech at Clark Atlanta University, and declared that it is time to adopt Rep. Sheila Jackson Lee’s (D-TX) legislation on reparations. Warren delivered a speech at the historically black university Thursday evening and stressed the need to pass Lee’s reparations legislation, which “establishes the Commission to Study and Develop Reparation Proposals for African-Americans.” “Let’s be clear: It’s time for our government to have a full-blown national conversation about reparations,” Warren wrote in a tweet containing a video of her remarks:

Never have we been so connected and informed. We have at our fingertips a world of knowledge covering every possible field. We can easily communicate with others all over the world at little cost. We should have advanced immensely in speaking with others. Everything should be in place for long stimulating conversations about every possible topic. Or so it would seem. However, we are not talking to others. Worse yet, it appears many people don’t even know how to speak to one another. We are all wired up and have nothing to say. Many have lost the art of conversation....

A transcript of the July 25 phone call between President Donald Trump and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy shows the two leaders did talk during their brief conversation about an investigation involving Joe Biden and his son. Neither man, however, mentioned military aid to Ukraine that might hang in the balance. The White House released the complete official transcript less than a day after House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, D-Calif., announced an official impeachment inquiry, based largely on the suspicion that Trump had threatened to withhold military assistance from Ukraine unless it looked into the dropping of an investigation of the then-vice...
