Meeting of Minds with Steve Allen: Season 1, Episode 1
YouTube ^ | January 10, 1977 | Steve Allen, et. al.

Posted on 04/17/2022 5:09:59 PM PDT by Fester Chugabrew

Featuring Theodore Roosevelt, Cleopatra, Thomas Aquinas, and Thomas Paine.

While speaking to my Father-in-Law this afternoon he mentioned this program in passing, so I decided to look it up.

Now that I have watched the first episode of the first season, I cannot help but think there are some FReepers who would greatly enjoy not only the content but also the concept.

It is said that the writers attempted to make use of the historic figures' own words as much as possible.

I cannot imagine today's entertainment industry taking such an interest in the ideas discussed here, but can certainly imagine a good many snowflakes melting at the notion of civil conversation that involves political, philosophical, and theological differences.

Enjoy, and Happy Easter! CHRIST IS RISEN!

In this episode the two Thomases are particularly potent, but each character does very well.

I remember this. It was very good. There were a number of programs from Allen’s era that had considerably more intellectual and cultural depth than anything around today. Thanks for the reminder.

OMG, this was one of my favorite shows.

I thought I was the only one watching it.

I am going to enjoy seeing it again.

Thank you, Fester

Interesting that Cleopatra was portrayed by Jayne Meadows, Steve Allen's wife.   Or to be expected.

Steve Allen was one of the greatest all-around talents ever. He had an infectious laugh and his creativity was amazing. His invention of Mad-Libs was pure genius.

Steve Allen was a Liberal in the classic and still proper use of the word. Open minded and seeking rather that the current LEFT that have usurped the word with exactly opposite intents. I firmly believe that he would be an outcast in modern Hollyweird!

There is/was a 2? book hardbound set from this series that I have lost in my shrunken library. Will have to see if it is in the digital format somewhere (physical issues). Thanks for the reminder!
