Coachella, the iconic music festival held in the California desert has raised eyebrows this year for all the wrong reasons, leading some to question long-term viability. But experts have reflected on Coachella's poor performance and spoke to Newsweek about the wider state of the music festival industry. In 2023, it was the first time in 11 years that the festival did not sell out both its weekends and this year it has taken one whole month to sell out the first weekend. Considering over the past few years tickets sold out anywhere between 40 minutes to four hours, some have...

On Coachella’s website, the health and safety page cautions that “there is no guarantee, express or implied, that those attending the festival will not be exposed to COVID-19.” Though it is “strongly recommended,” California’s rules for outdoor mega events — like music or food festivals — don’t require verification of fully vaccinated status or pre-entry negative COVID-19 test results. In October last year, the festivals had already indicated that they wouldn’t be requiring vaccine proof, saying guests could also enter with a negative coronavirus test result. Now, test results won’t be required for entry either.

Organizers announced Friday the anticipated return of the mass event in 2021 “has been cancelled,” after it was initially postponed to October due to coronavirus concerns. According to a report published by Variety, once the move is officially confirmed it would be the fourth time the dates have been shuffled since the coronavirus pandemic began just over 12 months ago

The woman was seen stepping out of a white Jeep, peering into a dumpster used for recyclables, then dropping the bag filled with the puppies into a pile of trash behind Napa Auto Parts in Coachella Thursday before driving away. A man who rummaged through the dumpster shortly afterward...

Kanye West made Coachella history this weekend, when he brought his famous Sunday Service spectacle to the Southern Californian desert festival for a massive Easter morning celebration. Although the “Jesus Walks” rapper has been staging Sunday Services since January, they have so far taken place in a secret Los Angeles location and have been invite-only, so this performance was the first time that the general public could attend. (Everyone with a Coachella wristband was welcome.) The full show was also live-streamed on YouTube through a fisheye-style peephole lens, for an especially intimate effect.

Teen Vogue said all 54 women who spoke to the magazine during Coachella had a story about being sexually assaulted or harassed over that weekend. Meanwhile, Indio police would not confirm to CBS2 how many complaints of sexual misconduct were made during the first weekend. ... “I would’ve expected to see something on their website, in terms...

Since it launched in October of 1999, Coachella's become something of a cultural force. The music and arts festival draws almost 100,000 people per day, according to Goldenvoice, including today's top performers and street-style stars. But every year, the thorn in the festival's side is appropriative fashion. From the overtly racist to the blindly ignorant, some Coachella attendees see festival fashion as the opportunity — knowingly or unknowingly — to demean cultures for Instagram likes.

Post-presidential visits to the desert are nothing new. Presidents Eisenhower, Nixon and Ford all came to the Coachella Valley after their time in office. President Obama though will make history Friday when he becomes the first president to head straight for the desert the moment he becomes a private citizen. After all, they don't call the Coachella Valley "the playground of presidents" for no reasons.

The 10-bedroom estate, overlooking Coachella Valley, was custom designed the famous comedian and his wife Dolores by renowned Modern architect John Lautner. The unique UFO style home, which was completed in 1980, was first put on the market in March 2013 for $50 million. But the property proved a tough sell, and the price was dropped to $34 million just nine months later. By December 2014, the asking price had plummeted to half its original listing, at just $25 million. However, the new owner, reported to be investor Ron Burkle - worth an estimated $1.54 billion, snapped it up at...

Flames were reported just after noon at the Islamic Center of Palm Springs, according to the Riverside County Fire Department. The fire was contained to the small building’s front lobby, and no one was injured. Its cause is under investigation. People there described hearing a loud boom and seeing flames, said Reymundo Nour, the mosque’s acting imam, who was not on the site at the time. He said the mosque had been fire-bombed. NOTE: On the message board was a discussion about the 24-year-old girl who died of an apparent drug overdose at Coachella. The story is referenced here - http://pitchfork.com/news/54842-coachella-attendee-dies-after-collapsing-at-festival/ What is interesting is that some were mocking the poor girl's death. It turned into a political discussion with me saying I would not mock her death but would certainly mock someone evil, like Castro. Here is one of the most staggering responses, which shows what the left has done to the education system in this country: "Pretty sure when you weigh it all out, Castro is responsible for more positive effects...

LOS ANGELES (Reuters) - A giant inflatable pig that went missing from a Southern California music festival at the weekend has been found in tatters in a desert town. The pig, which has been a signature Pink Floyd stage prop since its appearance on the 1977 cover of "Animals" featuring the song "Pigs on the Wing," broke away from its tethers on Sunday night at Coachella Valley Arts and Music Festival. The festival organizers offered a $10,000 reward for the two-story inflatable pig belonging to ex-Pink Floyd frontman Roger Waters. Two couples said on Wednesday they had found the shredded...

OUTDOOR COLUMN -- matthews-ONS -- 05jul06 Deer in peril by aqueduct, fencing work By JIM MATTHEWS Outdoor News Service A portion of the burro deer herd in Imperial and Riverside counties is being denied water during the scorching summer heat because of work being conducted by the Coachella Valley Water District (CVWD) on the Coachella Canal, located on the east side of the Salton Sea and Imperial Valley. The canal, which has delivered Colorado River water to farm fields in the Imperial Valley for decades, is being replaced with a concrete lined canal to eliminate leakage. This will increase the...
