The U.S. Supreme Court overruled a lower federal court’s ruling and said that absentee ballots in Wisconsin’s April 7 Spring Election must be postmarked by Election Day in order to be counted. The Court did not change the April 13 deadline as the final day for counting absentee ballots.

This is the garbage going out on a daily basis from OFA This is what we are dealing with Myles, a 7-year-old from Milwaukee, wrote Vice President Biden a letter to suggest that if guns shot chocolate bullets, no one would get hurt. The Vice President wrote back. Take a look at his response, then share it with your friends: Dear Myles -- I am sorry it took me so very long to respond to your letter. I really like your idea. If we had guns that shot chocolate, not only would our country be safer, it would be happier....

HAMMOND | Former Lake County Clerk Thomas Philpot was sentenced to 18 months in prison Thursday for stealing thousands of dollars in public child support incentive funds over which he had control. Philpot, who also served as Lake County coroner, was ordered to surrender April 3 to a federal correctional camp in Pekin, Ill. Federal defendants usually serve at least 85 percent of their sentence, which means Philpot likely will spend at least 15 months in prison. Senior U.S. District Court Judge James Moody asked himself out loud, why did Philpot, an intelligent, well-trained man familiar with the proper workings...

Chicago, August 11, 2011 – This week U.S. Senator Dick Durbin held a press conference with members of the mainstream media to talk about the downgrade crisis. But the Senator’s scripted storyline veered off-course when a conservative reporter – me – showed up to ask an embarrassing question. Namely, “Senator, you’ve blamed the tea party…but do you bear any responsibility for this downgrade crisis?” Video at link posted

HAMMOND | Mayor Thomas McDermott Jr. said Tuesday he is running for U.S. Senate and may already have backing from at least two of the party leaders whose support he will need to be named the Democratic nominee for Sen. Evan Bayh's seat. Bayh, D-Ind., announced Monday he won't run for re-election, and no Democrat met Tuesday's deadline to submit the 4,500 signatures necessary to get on the primary ballot. The 32-member Democratic State Central Committee will meet sometime before June 30 to pick a nominee to run against the Republican primary winner in the fall. Three of those committee...

The public is being warned to avoid downtown Chicago expressways after pavement was damaged during construction work on the northbound Kennedy Expressway at Adams Street. "We're advising people to stay off the downtown expressways for the next 24 hours," said Marisa Kollias, a spokeswoman for the Illinois Department of Transportation. "This is a major crisis." Workers were pumping concrete into an underground freight tunnel this morning when "pressure made the road erupt," according to an IDOT dispatcher. Two right lanes of the northbound Kennedy have been closed. It was not known how long the lanes would be shut down. The...

HAMMOND | Early voting satellite centers in Gary, Hammond and East Chicago will remain open following a Wednesday ruling in Lake Superior Court. In her ruling, Judge Diane Kavadias-Schneider struck down Republican efforts to have the satellite voting locations deemed illegal and shut down. The judge granted a petition by Democrats and the United Steelworkers union to keep the sites open on grounds the centers provide better access to early voting to minority communities, which don't have the time or transportation to reach the early voting center
