After the mass shooting at a Texas elementary school, schools around the country pledged to boost security measures and increased the presence of law enforcement on campus — partly to reassure parents and students. But police inside schools can make some students more uneasy, not less. Especially for Black students and other students of color, their personal experiences with policing can leave them feeling unsafe and alienated from school when they see officers on campus. High school senior Malika Mobley has seen three different school resource officers patrolling the campus in Raleigh, North Carolina. Once on the way home from...

The full list of companies that have curtailed operations in Russia as well as those that remain, as of March 7, can be seen below. (at the link)

Commercials take up 27% of commercial television screen time and are the main source of income for TV and radio stations. In most cases, advertisements on all channels appear simultaneously, so don't try to change the channel, there will be commercials elsewhere, too. Nowadays they have also taken over the Internet. For financial support, websites have to run ads on their pages, the largest share supplied and controlled by Google. Ads pry into your eyes, unceremoniously interfere with text, and on YouTube, in the most inappropriate places, they cut into the action of films, lectures, and concerts, tearing apart musical...

Lt. Col. Stuart Scheller is in a military jail for denouncing the US over its Afghanistan pullout. Pro-Trump entities have shared their support for Scheller, including by raising over $2 million. Scheller, however, has said he'd rather "sit in jail" than accept support from Donald Trump. See more stories on Insider's business page. The MAGA community has raised more than $2 million for a Marine officer who went viral for criticizing the US withdrawal from Afghanistan and saying he wanted to "bring the whole fucking system down." The officer in question, however, has spoken out against former President Donald Trump....

September 2021 marked the tenth anniversary of the 9/11 attacks. It was a somber occasion, as millions of Americans looked back on one of the worst atrocities in American history, and that calamitous foreign policy America embarked on in response to it. Revolver writes “one of” the worst atrocities, because there are deeds that killed far more Americans than 9/11 did. In fact, America is living through one of those atrocities right now. Newly-released FBI numbers confirm something that has been apparent for the last year: The Black Lives Matter movement is the deadliest entirely-preventable atrocity inflicted on the American...

A New Jersey man was arrested in Tennessee for allegedly kidnapping his 2-year-old son, prosecutors said Saturday — as the boy’s mother was reportedly found dead. Tyler Rios, 27, is accused of abducting both little Sebastian Rios and the boy’s mom, 24-year-old Yasemin Uyar, of Rahway, the Union County Prosecutor’s Office said in a statement. Authorities issued an Amber Alert on Friday afternoon after the tot didn’t show up for daycare and his mom didn’t arrive to a scheduled work shift.

Two of the three men found shot to death on a Cobb County golf course last weekend had been bound and gagged with tape before being placed in the bed of a pickup truck, according to warrants made public Friday morning. Bryan Rhoden, 23, was arrested Thursday after being identified as the “lone shooter” in the bizarre triple homicide at an affluent Kennesaw-area country club over the Fourth of July weekend.

Vacation Bible School has been a beloved summer pastime for children across America for generations. Boys and girls look forward to a week of Bible stories, interactive songs, arts and crafts and of course, Hydrox cookies and fruit punch. What’s not to love about VBS? Honestly, the only people who could be remotely offended by Vacation Bible School would be a bunch of godless, heathen atheists. And that brings me to an incident that occurred at Fort Sill in Oklahoma. Military leaders ordered soldiers to remove a banner promoting Vacation Bible School at the base’s Frontier Chapel. The banner, which...

Dead people will no longer receive a funeral escort from the Asheville Police Department. Neither will police respond to calls reporting theft under $1,000, fraud, identity theft or simple assaults. The Asheville Police Dept. blamed the cutback on services as a result of a severe shortage of officers. Since 2020 the department has lost 30 percent of its officers and detectives. Police Chief David Zack told the local newspaper that delayed response times — for crimes, such as fraud and many thefts under $1,000 — and even more service cuts are likely as APD struggles to fill vacancies that now...
