After the mass shooting at a Texas elementary school, schools around the country pledged to boost security measures and increased the presence of law enforcement on campus — partly to reassure parents and students.
But police inside schools can make some students more uneasy, not less. Especially for Black students and other students of color, their personal experiences with policing can leave them feeling unsafe and alienated from school when they see officers on campus.
High school senior Malika Mobley has seen three different school resource officers patrolling the campus in Raleigh, North Carolina. Once on the way home from school, Mobley saw officers detain a visibly distraught classmate and push the student into the back of a police vehicle.
“They were crying, ‘Why are you doing this to me? I didn’t do anything,'” said Mobley, co-president of Wake County Black Student Coalition. “I was just forced to stand there and couldn't do anything.”

Sight of police officer makes them uncomfortable? What does that tell you about the person?
The ‘can’t say it’ truth is cops already ignore them.
Ya know - I keep hearing the phrase “people of color” or “person of color” and I just want to know if it’s OK to start referring to them as “colored people” again.
Must be afraid cops will stop them from doing illegal things
They sound like criminals.
“Especially for Black students and other students of color“
Because they’re special. They commit more crimes so police make them nervous.
That’s too bad.
What constitutes being “of color”?
1/16 blood?
Jim Crow would like to know.

“””Sight of police officer makes them uncomfortable? What does that tell you about the person?”””
It is probably bad for a drug dealer’s business to have police inside a public school.
Did you bother to find out the facts, or are you letting your bias dictate what you believe? EVERYONE claims they didn't do anything. That doesn't make it true.
The guilty flee when no one follows.
How many times have we seen video of people screaming to the police they didn’t do anything, they don’t know why they’re under arrest, etc. Only for the police to release video of them being observed committing some office that would warrant the treatment they are currently getting.
“What constitutes being “of color”?”
I guess the old “paper bag rule” will return as a measuring method.
Back to separate schools then
No cops, no law abiding gun owners, what possibly could go wrong?
Everyone is a person of color. Some of us are just lighter shades.
Don’t rape or steal or commit any crimes and guess what...they won’t bother you!
