The last “Bandit” Trans Am owned by Burt Reynolds was sold at a Julien’s Auctions event featuring the late star’s memorabilia for $317,500 on Sunday. The 1979 Pontiac wasn’t actually used in “Smokey and the Bandit,” but was a tribute car built for Reynolds by Bandit Movie Cars in Florida that he drove in public events. Reynolds owned several replicas over the years as the dozen or so vehicles that appeared on screen were all damaged during the making of the movie and discarded afterward. The most authentic original is a car that Universal Pictures bought at the time to...

When Burt Reynolds drove his celestial Trans-Am into the Great Beyond he took a significant chunk of America’s dwindling reserve of testosterone along with him. Unless you grew up in the ‘70s, its hard to understand his influence and impact, and how he reflected what Americans (particularly American men) wanted to be. Flicks like The Longest Yard, Smokey and the Bandit, and the criminally underrated Sharkey’s Machine, all offered us a tough but funny hero who took on the bullies in authority with a smirk, a joke, and when appropriate, a football to the “nether regions.”football to the “nether regions.”Of...

In a line much quoted since his death on Thursday, Burt Reynolds observed, "I may not be the best actor in the world, but I'm the best Burt Reynolds in the world." And he was. It made him a huge box-office star in the Seventies, and thus the best Burt Reynolds in the world cruised amiably through Smokey and the Bandit, Cannonball Run and variants thereof for a hugely lucrative decade. He took his bankability and invested it in things he liked - a football team, a petting zoo, and a lovely little theatre in Jupiter, Florida. Squire to an...

At a February news conference President Trump said that the only reason the United States was in Syria was because of Islamic State.... But the US envoy for Syria, James Jeffrey now says the United States is in Syria because of Islamic State and because of Iranian presence..... Russian Aerospace Forces (Air Force) launched at least seven airstikes in the northern region where the Syrian government offensive is expected..... A key meeting is underway today in Tehran, Iran. Its a summit between the leaders of...

WEST PALM BEACH (CBS12) — A pro-Isis group has released a hit list with the names of more than 8,000 peopl emostly Americans. More than 600-people live in Florida, and one security expert believes that many of those targeted live in Palm Beach County and on the Treasure Coast. The "United Cyber Caliphate" that hacked U.S. Central Command, 54,000 Twitter accounts and threatened President Barack Obama is the same pro-Isis group that's reportedly created a "kill list" with the names, addresses and emails of thousands of civilian Americans. Former FBI agent-turned lawyer Stuart Kaplan says the threat is especially alarming,...

Cutting an increasingly frail figure, Burt Reynold arrived in New York yesterday for an interview on Stephen Colbert's 'The Late Show'. Still using a cane to walk, the 79-year-old star hit the studio as part of his press rounds for new memoir 'But Enough About Me'. Former Hollywood macho man Reynolds has been suffering ill health for many years now, with back surgery in 2009 leaving him addicted to pain killers.

... Reynolds' new book, "But Enough About Me" (Putnam), is an unconventional memoir. Rather than a complete and chronological account of his life, Reynolds, the top box-office attraction for five straight years in the 1970s, worked with co-author Jon Winokur to compile chapters about people in his life, telling his own story through the often-wild tales of those around him ...

“Boogie Nights” star Burt Reynolds may face foreclosure on his mansion in Florida soon, at risk of losing his 12,500 square foot home that he bought with his former wife, Loni Anderson. Reynolds has allegedly not made any mortgage payments on the home since September 1, 2010, causing Merrill Lynch Credit Corporation to file a lawsuit against him recently in Martin County, according to ABC. The actor originally bought the home for $1.5 million in 1994, taking out a 25-year mortgage from the company. Merrill Lynch is asking the judge to take away the 75-year-old star’s home to pay off...

Burt Reynolds, once one of Hollywood's highest-paid stars, faces eviction from his Florida home after failing to pay the mortgage. The 75-year-old actor is being taken to court after claims he has failed to make a payment on his waterfront mansion for almost a year. Lawyers for Merrill Lynch have asked a judge to sell the £1.4million house, set in 4.5 acres, so they can recover the £700,000 the bank says it is owed In a sign of the scale of his financial hardship, property records show Reynolds has a second £455,000 mortgage on the property with another bank. He...

Burt Reynolds Enters Fla. Rehab For Pill Addiction WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. – Actor Burt Reynolds has checked himself into a rehab facility in West Palm Beach to be treated for an addiction to painkillers. Reynolds' manager Erik Kritzer said in a statement Wednesday that the "Smokey and the Bandit" star was struggling after a recent back surgery and "realized that he was in the prison of prescription pain pills." Kritzer says Reynolds hopes his story will help others in similar situations and that they will not try to solve the problem by themselves.

Warner Bros. today will launch a service giving the public the opportunity to custom-order DVDs of films never before released via the medium. The move is seen as a response to dwindling DVD sales and also to customer demand for titles that while not totally obscure, didn't necessarily generate enough heat to merit a full-on DVD release. The Warner Archive Collection, available at WarnerArchive.com, includes films dating back to the silent age and for $19.95 per disc Warners will burn, package and ship for receipt within an estimated five days. Currently there are 150 titles available with for a total...

That's the real flaw in Christopher Dickey's "Deliverance" metaphor: If Cheney is Burt Reynolds, and the rest of America is Jon Voight, and the river is Iraq, who are the hillbillies? Well, presumably (for he doesn't spell it out) they're the dark forces you make yourself vulnerable to when you blunder into somewhere you shouldn't be. When the quartet returns to Atlanta a man short, they may understand how thin the veneer of civilization is, but they don't have to worry that their suburban cul-de-sacs will be overrun and reduced to the same state of nature as the backwoods. That's...

Need proof that cosmetic surgery and men is now a mainstream marriage? Check out these statistics: While women still make up 87 percent of all cosmetic surgery patients, 1.2 million procedures were performed on men in 2004. That's a 16 percent increase since 2000, according to the American Society of Plastic Surgeons (ASPS). "More men than ever before are getting plastic surgery," said Dr. Brent Moelleken, a Beverly Hills, Calif., plastic and reconstructive surgeon who says up to 20 percent of his practice includes men. "Ten years ago, it was just 5 to 10 percent." Men choose to improve many...

Burt Reynolds would no doubt give anything to return to the days when he was a fresh-faced sex symbol. Anything including, it seems, large sums of money for plastic surgery. The 1970s heart-throb appears to have had an extensive and expensive series of operations on his once-chiselled features. But whether or not the result is an improvement is open to debate. Reynolds, 69 next month, made his latest public appearance at the festivities surrounding this weekend's Superbowl event in Jacksonville, Florida. From a distance he looked in remarkable shape for his age. Close up, however, his appearance was less impressive....
