Samsung and TSMC are facing an investigation by the US International Trade Commission (USITC) over allegations of patent infringement involving chips and mobile devices containing those chips. The USITC said that it will begin an investigation based on a complaint filed by Daedalus Prime LLC of Bronxville, New York, in September. The complaint alleges violations of section 337 of the Tariff Act of 1930 in the import into the US of semiconductor devices, and mobile devices containing those chips, which allegedly infringe patents claimed by the company. Continuing to sell off stations to reduce debt, Cumulus Media has inked a deal to hand over talk WABC New York (770) to Red Apple Media for $12.5 million in cash. Red Apple is headed by chairman John Catsimatidis, who hosts the syndicated “Cats Roundtable Radio Show.” Calling the purchase the “next step in building a new broadcasting business,” Catsimatidis says he plans to “retain the excellent staff and talent working at the station now.” The sale leaves Cumulus with only one station in the New York market—“Radio 103.9” WNBM, an urban AC licensed to Bronxville, NY. Cumulus earlier sold...

Teacher pay ranks among the nation’s highest. And voters long approved high real estate taxes to pay for it all. But even here — as in other affluent enclaves — corners are being cut, bringing home the wrenching debate that has caused turmoil in so many other communities. What some really fear is that the cuts will continue. “You hear people say they want Mandarin taught in the sixth grade or...

A former teacher at Bronxville High School has been convicted of trying to set up a sexual encounter with a 15-year-old girl on the Internet. Westchester District Attorney Jeanine Pirro says Earth science teacher Paul Wicht faces up to four years in prison on three counts of trying to disseminate indecent material to a minor. Wicht, who was convicted Monday, was arrested last year when he arrived for the alleged rendezvous with his former student. Pirro says the girl reported his overtures to her parents, and investigators in the prosecutor's office then posed as the girl for several explicit online...
