The northern Italian city of Padua has started removing the names of non-biological gay mothers from their children’s birth certificates under new legislation passed by the “traditional family-first” government of Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni. These birth certificates belong to 33 children of Italian women who underwent artificial insemination abroad and then registered their children under the city’s center-left government, led by Sergio Giordani, in 2017. The prosecutor’s office in Padua confirmed to CNN that, as of Thursday, 27 mothers had been removed from 27 birth certificates.

Bottom Surgery What we are seeing is an effort to deprioritize the facts of biological sex to accommodate an incredibly tiny and unrepresentative number of transgender activists. The New England Journal of Medicine has published a paper that argues since sex designations on birth certificates could emotionally hurt transgender and intersex people, the information should not appear on the document. The premise behind the idea is that “assigned sex” should appear “below the line,” allowing it to be used in vital statistics but not identify the individual on the document itself. The argument is built on claims the Supreme Court has...

The nation’s war over gender roles and sexuality is moving from banquet halls, bakeries and bathrooms into a new arena: birth certificates. In courthouses across Florida, judges are being asked to decide whether transgender people may change not only the name on their birth certificate, but also their “gender marker,” or the box that designates their sex. The requests have become increasingly common, say lawyers who litigate such cases.

I’m just counting the days until this particular battle shows up at the federal level. (As you’ll see in a moment, I’m not sure if that’s even possible, but if it is, the Justice Department will figure out a way.) Legislators in New Jersey passed a bill (for the second time) which, if signed into law, would allow transgender individuals to alter their birth certificates to reflect their “new†gender of choice. And for the second straight time, Christie broke out the veto pen. For the second time in 18 months, Governor Christie on Monday vetoed a bill that...

Governor Andrew M. Cuomo today announced new regulations to include transgender health care services under New York State’s Medicaid program. The proposed regulations provide treatment for hormone therapy and gender reassignment surgery.... New York will join California, Massachusetts, Oregon, Vermont, and Washington D.C., which cover transgender health care through their Medicaid programs. In May, the federal government also ended its decades-long exclusion of coverage for certain services related to gender transition under Medicare. The introduction of this Medicaid regulation follows last week’s announcement that New York State law requires private health insurance companies to cover transgender health care on the...

Mexico is now issuing birth certificates at its United States consulates so illegal immigrants can avoid deportation. Until now, Mexico has required its citizens to get birth certificates at government offices in Mexico. Many of those living in the U.S. ask friends and relatives back home to retrieve the paperwork, but the delay can hold up their applications for various benefits.

¡Dios bendito! Mexico’s government is not known for its efficiency. But they’ve got their act together if you’re a Mexican citizen in the United States, and need your permiso, or your driver’s license in California. Yesterday (Jan 15), the Mexican government is issuing birth certificates from any consulate in the United States. Not 24 hours after the House of Representatives approved a bill that would end DACA (Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals), the rush has begun to get your paperwork in to DHS, before it’s (potentially) too late. From now on, Mexico's 50 consulates in the U.S. will be able to get access to data maintained...

Mexico is trying to help them apply for programs that would allow them to remain temporarily in the country and continue sending money back to relatives across the border. “It is a huge help. It helps individuals really begin to formulate their formal identity in this country,” said Angelica Salas, executive director of the Coalition for Humane Immigrant Rights of Los Angeles.

Proposed legislation that would make it easier to change the gender on New York City birth certificates passed an important hurdle Friday. The Council’s Health Committee unanimously approved the bill, paving the way for the full Council vote on Monday. The legislation would let anyone change the gender on their birth certificate provided they have documentation from a broad list of providers — including doctors, nurses, and therapists — that they identify with a different gender. Previously, the city required proof of surgery or procedures like hormone therapy to change a gender on a birth certificate. "These measures will transform...

New York City lawmakers are weighing making it easier for transgender people to change the sex on their birth certificates. […] The City Council’s Health Committee […] would eliminate a requirement for people to have gender-reassignment surgery in order to change the documents. Instead, a health professional would be able to affirm that the change would more accurately reflect the person’s gender. …

COLUMBUS, Ohio (AP) -- Elizabeth Torres was stung when her 19-year-old son said he'd been turned down for a state-issued Ohio identification card because his birth certificate from Puerto Rico was considered invalid. "We're not illegal aliens, we are citizens of this country," Torres said. "We have everything, all the documents and all that, but we are not treated as such." People born in Puerto Rico are finding that older birth certificates from the U.S. territory are not being accepted when applying for a state ID or driver's license at the Ohio Bureau of Motor Vehicles....

(April 21) -- In a dramatic bid to end fraud, identity theft and illegal immigration, Puerto Rico is voiding all birth certificates issued before July 1, 2010 -- forcing more than 5 million people to apply for new ones. The move will "protect the identity of all Puerto Ricans born on the island, and at the same time help the federal government with national security issues," Luis Balzac, spokesman for the Puerto Rico Federal Affairs Administration, said in a phone interview with AOL News. According to the U.S. departments of State and Homeland Security, Puerto Rican birth certificates account for...

GOP's Coburn likes plan to require birth certificates. BY BOB UNRUH Sen. Tom Coburn, R-Okla., says it's the responsibility of the states to make sure political candidates are eligible for the offices they seek, but he's in favor of both state and federal demands that future presidential candidates have a formal procedure to document their qualifications. The relatively strong statement from Coburn on the issue of the eligibility of a president came in a recent letter to a constituent who contacted WND. WND has reported on a federal plan in the U.S. House by Rep. Bill Posey, R-Fla., that would...

The slippery slope that wasn't supposed to happen once same-sex marriage was granted is making Everest jealous. In Massachusetts this week, Gov. BOSTON — Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney (search) says babies born to couples of the same sex should be given amended birth certificates, but supporters of gay marriage who want to change those certificates say the governor's formula for doing so is wrong. Click in the box to the right to watch a report by FOX News' Alisyn Camerota. Birth certificates (search) are supposed to establish identity and parentage. In Massachusetts, the only state in the union where same-sex marriage (search) is legal, gay rights advocates want the words "Mother" and "Father" removed from birth certificates, and put in their place...

BOSTON - The governor's office has instructed hospitals to cross out the word "father" on birth certificates for children of same-sex parents and substitute "second parent," angering municipal clerks. Eric Fehrnstrom, a spokesman for Gov. Mitt Romney, said Thursday that the certificates are perfectly legal. But municipal clerks, who register and store birth records, say the cross-outs could leave the documents open to challenges by passport agents, foreign governments and other officials. "They should not have a birth certificate that has crosses on it," said Barnstable Town Clerk Linda E. Hutchenrider, a past president of the Massachusetts Town Clerks Association....

NEWARK - The former deputy registrar of the Hudson County Office of Vital Statistics pleaded guilty today to conspiring to illegally transfer Hudson County birth certificates, U.S. Attorney Christopher J. Christie announced. The guilty plea from Jean Anderson, 40, of Jersey City, is the culmination of an extensive investigation by the Federal Bureau of Investigation and the Diplomatic Security Service, an agency of the Department of State, into the issuance of fraudulent birth certificates from the Hudson County Office of Vital Statistics (HCOVS). An individual who paid Anderson and her co-conspirators for the service of creating the false birth records...
