COLUMBUS, Ohio (AP) -- Elizabeth Torres was stung when her 19-year-old son said he'd been turned down for a state-issued Ohio identification card because his birth certificate from Puerto Rico was considered invalid.

"We're not illegal aliens, we are citizens of this country," Torres said. "We have everything, all the documents and all that, but we are not treated as such."

People born in Puerto Rico are finding that older birth certificates from the U.S. territory are not being accepted when applying for a state ID or driver's license at the Ohio Bureau of Motor Vehicles....

This is another example of bureaucratic incompetence and the modern education system.

It’s like the guy in the Clinton era who was denied by dumba$$ liberal a grant because “New Mexico is not in the United States.”

Easy, change your name to Pedro Gonzales and refuse to speak English. The Ohil dim-bulbs will give you two or three licenses (to use as spares....)

In the past, Puerto Rico was an easy way into the U.S. from the Spanish Caribbean, particularly from the Domonican Republic. They would go to Puerto Rico, get a birth certificate for a dead Puerto Rican, then move on to the mainland U.S. There are several hundred thousand Dominicans in NYC alone.

Is Ohio that bad ?

How about NY? I know some one who I KNOW to be illegal alien and I am wondering what happens if he goes to NY DMV to get a drivers license

he seems to think “No Problemo Senior”

The simple solution would be to go over to Mexico, sneak back over illegally, and demand your right to have a driver’s license.

This is nuts, but maybe there is some bureaucratic snafu that explains by means of non explanation why a US citizen can’t be respected as a US citizen.

They should plaster them to their forehead, so all can see. Dont forget the ones living on the park benches.

Newsflash to Elizabeth Torres and her son...
every birth certificate from Puerto Rico is not considered legal INSIDE Puerto Rico as of this summer....

The fraud is so rampant the PR legislature had to take this step....

“every birth certificate from Puerto Rico is not considered legal INSIDE Puerto Rico as of this summer....

Back in May/June news reports came out that effective July 1, 2010 ALL existing Puerto Rican birth certificates were invalid and that ALL Puerto Ricans, regardless of residence, had to apply for a new certificate. The reason was rampant fraud leading to massive identify theft. One report said that up to 40% of all PR certificates were fraudulent. Colorado and several other states haven’t been accepting PR birth certificates for months prior due to the ID theft issue; it isn’t Ohio only.

It looks a whole lot more legit than my Ohio birth certificate (invest in some decent paper and quality printing equipment, you cheap bastards!)

His beef should be with Puerto Rico, not Ohio. Just contact Puerto Rico and get a new birth certificate.

Not the past — still going on today. They’re mostly in Washington Heights.
They should hire me at the boarding area at the airport — I can spot the Domincan 8 out of 10 times — spent some time there, and in PR.
