The CEO of Intel prompted mixed reactions for posting a verse from Proverbs on Sunday after announcing that more than 15% of the tech company's workforce will be laid off amid its plummeting share price. "Let your eyes look straight ahead; fix your gaze directly before you. Give careful thought to the paths for your feet and be steadfast in all your ways," Pat Gelsinger posted to X, quoting Proverbs 4:25-26. Gelsinger drew criticism from some X users who mocked him for "praying" and accused him of "resorting to religion to save the company." "Have you even asked yourself how...

A Virginia school district says that a Bible verse engraved on bench memorializing a deceased student must be removed because it is not legal. Charlotte County School Superintendent Nancy Leonard said that the school board determined that the engraving on the bench was illegal because it violated the U.S. Constitution’s Establishment Clause, which states that the government cannot “establish” a state-sponsored religion. “We found that the memorial bench that we currently have is not legally compliant because of the Establishment Clause (in Constitution), because of the Bible verse,” Leonard told WAFF. The verse from Philippians 4:13 says, “I can do...

After the presidential election last November, New York Times executive editor Dean Baquet gave an interview to NPR in which he admitted that his journalists simply don’t understand religion.“We don’t get religion,” Baquet said. “We don’t get the role of religion in people’s lives.”Baquet was correct: Acela corridor political reporters don’t understand religion, especially Christianity. Though he was specifically speaking about New York Times reporters, Baquet’s comments clearly also apply to the Washington Post, which on Friday morning accused a Republican congressman from Texas of claiming that the Bible forbids the unemployed from having food to eat.The headline from the...

AR-15 comes with Bible verse and Knight's Templar Cross etching; Council on American-Islamic Relations of Florida condemns the rifle. A Florida gun maker has created an "ISIS-proof" assault rifle that has raised the ire of Muslim groups. Designed so Islamic State militants "could not touch it," the AR-15, made by Spike's Tactical in Apopka, is inscribed with the biblical verse, “Blessed be the Lord my Rock, who trains my hands for war, my fingers for battle" (Pslams 144:1). It is also etched with a Knight's Templar Long Cross - a Christian Crusader symbol. The rifle's safety selector has three settings:...

A United States Marine was convicted at a court-martial for refusing to remove a Bible verse on her computer – a verse of Scripture the military determined “could easily be seen as contrary to good order and discipline.” The plight of Lance Corporal Monifa Sterling seems unbelievable – a member of the Armed Forces criminally prosecuted for displaying a slightly altered passage of Scripture from the Old Testament: “No weapon formed against me shall prosper.” Sterling, who represented herself at trial, was convicted February 1, 2014 in a court-martial at Camp Lejune, North Carolina after she refused to obey orders...

I thought it was cute (and thought provoking on a day like today) that my "Verse-a-Day" desk calendar shows Proverbs 26:4 as today's verse. "Answer not a fool according to his folly, lest thou also be like unto him." :)
