La’keysha Jackson, 24, began working for Bronx mother Geraldine Jaramillo a year ago via a contractor paid for by the city’s Administration for Children’s Services that provides struggling families with babysitters to help with caretaking. The single mom said she discovered the violent treatment last month when the kids’ Pennsylvania-based grandma checked a home surveillance camera in the bedroom — and was...

Democratic strategist James Carville said Tuesday on MSNBC’s “The Beat” that Vice President Kamala Harris was “not close” to beating former President Donald Trump in November. Guest host Michael Steele said, “I want to touch on a little bit of the noise he made earlier this week, which I personally appreciated and wanted to make sure people understood what I thought of what you said, when you caution folks. All the exuberance and all the excitement we are seeing right now in the campaign is good, it’s healthy, it is important, particularly given the campaign for Joe Biden was. Your...

President Joe Biden “doubted” whether Vice President Kamala Harris can defeat former President Donald Trump before he decided to step aside Sunday, three Biden aides familiar with recent talks about his plans told Axios. Biden’s fear underscores the contrast between the lack of unity in the Democrat party compared to Republican Party unity heading into November. Biden endorsed Harris on his personal X account about 30 minutes after announcing he would step aside, which Republicans say is odd. After Biden’s endorsement, it appears many party leaders are trying to coalesce around Harris, including the “squad.” Biden, Bill and Hillary Clinton,...

Store clerks have legal options when someone shoplifts. Teaming up to brutally beat the thief isn’t one of them. No wonder two 7-11 clerks in Stockton who battered a would-be shoplifter with a wooden rod are being investigated by police, as reported on TV news. Although brazen stealing is frustrating, costly and dangerous to store employees, confronting it with violence that far exceeds self-defense is not the answer.

Taking matters into their own hands. (Credit: Joel Fischer/Twitter) It appears some people aren’t going to put up with brazen looters any more. The 1976 film Network had one iconic moment, where Howard Beale, played by Peter Finch, started a social phenomenon by declaring during a live broadcast that his viewers should all shout, “I’m as mad as hell, and I’m not gonna take this anymore!”Looting of retail establishments has become a far worse pandemic than COVID was.
