The TV network said it would air the full interview Friday. The network said al-Sahhaf claimed he had surrendered to American forces, was interrogated and released. He "was exclusively interviewed in his hide-out...

A quagmire is defined as marshy or boggy land where the footing is insecure. Or, as the dictionary says, "a situation from which extrication is very difficult." In any case, it is the word that no one wants to think about when it comes to the war in Iraq. It is seven weeks since President Bush declared that major hostilities in Iraq were over. Since then, however, more than 40 American troops have been killed in accidents or after being attacked by unfriendly forces, many of whom are believed to be loyal to Saddam Hussein. For the past couple of...

A family maid tells her storyTwo weeks into the war in Iraq, the maid realized something was up when her boss, Saddam Hussein's nephew, told her to bone up on a Tikriti accent so that she wouldn't attract attention as a Baghdadi when the family moved north. Two days later, she says, she found herself in a convoy of cars with Saddam's sons Uday and Qusay, headed for a rendezvous in Tikrit, Saddam's hometown, with the Iraqi dictator. The 18-year-old woman, who spoke to TIME on condition of anonymity, was a live-in employee of Farhan Ibrahim Migdal al-Dolaymi, who resided...

Paper to Switch to All-Whopper Format In a move seemingly designed to rock the journalism world, former Iraqi Information Minister Mohammed Saeed al-Sahaf was named executive editor of The New York Times today after the surprisingly brief seven-hour tenure of interim editor Joseph Lelyveld. Mr. al-Sahaf, who had been serving as the spokesman for media giant AOL-Time Warner, said he welcomed the challenges ahead in his new post at the Times. “Much as I loved working at AOL-Time Warner, I was bored,” Mr. al-Sahaf said. “That company is such a well-oiled machine, there just wasn’t much for me to do.”...

1) President George W. Bush is a liar.

2) Secretary of State Colin Powell is a liar.

3) Secretary of Defense Donald Rumsfeld is a liar.

4) National Security Advisor Condoleezza Rice is a liar.

To the above facts we might add these: There are no weapons of mass destruction in Iraq, none were there when our war against Iraq began, and none will be found unless we plant them there.

The BBC documentary asserted that the dramatic raid was actually unnecessary. It said Iraqi doctors tried to turn Lynch over to the Americans two days earlier, but were turned away by gunfire at a checkpoint. It claimed the Americans knew that Iraqi forces had already left the hospital. In this account, U.S. forces came in firing blanks and setting off explosions, just like in an American action movie. The Toronto Star and BBC accounts have some credibility problems.
