Iraqi Information Minister Channels Through Lennox Lewis after Fight
Posted by Big Brother on 2003/6/21 23:27:49 (73 reads)

Los Angeles (Newshax wire) -- Following a solid beating at the hands of Vitaly Klitschko, Lennox Lewis apparantly was inhabited by the soul of the former Iraqi Information Minister Saeed Abdul Raeef, saying in a post fight interview that "He's lucky the fight was stopped."

When reminded that he was behind on all judges scorecards, Lewis said it was "just a matter of time before he crumbled under my mighty feet," and reiterated just how lucky Klitschko was that the referees stopped the fight. "One Klitschko for lunch, I'll eat his brother too," said Lewis. "They will burn at the gates of hell if they enter the ring with me."

Ring doctors stopped the fight only because of a cut just above the eye of Klitschko who was widely perceived to have been manhandling Lewis, winning every round but one.

One more round and Lewis would have lost. Can't wait for the rematch.

There's a little overkill on both sides here. Obviously Lennox Lewis looked very, very slow & unprepared. But the concept of "solid beating" usually applies to the guy who's eye was gushing blood from two severe cuts that opened after some pretty strong pounding by Lewis. What was nice with this fight, however, is that it was a good, clean fight & did not involve Mike Tyson.

He better get his act together if he fights this Klitchko again. I don't know what might have happened, as both fighters were dealing some powerful blows to one another, but Lewis looked very out of shape. I saw where it was specualted that the cut above Klitchko's eye was actually caused by the patch on Lewis' glove coming into contact, and ripping the skin. It was a very nasty cut, and by the time the fight was stopped, Klitschko had another cut under the same eye. They need to call him Timex, because he took a major beating and kept coming back in. It truly could have gone either way. Lewis handled the post-fight interview very poorly. Klitschko laid the wood to Lewis several times, and still he wouldn't give him any credit. It definitely lowered my opinion of Lewis, who I always thought of as being higher than that kind of BS showmanship.

That was BY FAR the best Heavyweight fight I have ever seen. I do have to agree the best decision was to stop it. That was one nasty cut.

Bet your bottom dollar that Lewis will be in shape and with a much different mindset for the rematch.

Actually, Lewis has always been arrogant and it brought joy to many when Rahman wooped his butt. The only boxer more arrogant then Lewis is probably Prince Nassim. As for the cut - doesn't really mean he got a beating. Some fighters get cut much easier then others. Lewis, on the other hand, looked like he was about to just drop. I can't say the stoppage was unfair.. Still a shame, though.

The "cut" was more of a rip or tear. You can see that the punch that did it didn't connect directly, but brushed over his eye.

I thought at the beginning, Lewis was going to knock him out, with Klitchko leaning towards him...shows how little I know about boxing.

I've never seen him do that kind of grandstanding before, although it's not like I follow him. He came off looking like a self-absorbed a$$hole in that interview, which from the sounds of it I guess he is. One thing is for certain, he better take that guy seriously on the next go-round, or he'll be sorry. That Klitschko is a real contender. Also, I don't feel that the stoppage of the fight was that controversial. That most definitely WAS a very nasty cut. His entire eyebrow was nearly hanging down into his eye! Yuck! And the second cut below his eye was pretty nasty as well. Lewis had better be thankful that fight was stopped, or he very easily could have lost his title.

Yep. Well, I am a big fan of the Klitchko brothers. Both of them are excellent fighters with very few losses. They are huge in Europe and are looking to move to US.
The younger Klitchko got beaten badly a month ago (or so), however, but I am sure he'll come back even stronger. I am sure that one of them will take the title from Lewis.

The only fight Vitali ever lost is the one where he was beating the other guy, but quit because he said he pulled a tendon in his shoulder.

He's not as bad as I thought he would be.

They should have continued, Klitchko was not bleeding excessively, nor was he unable to see. the referee let Lewis hang on for dear life way too long. With two giants, why did they have a vertically challenged referee?

I've seen a lot of matches which were stopped for cuts lesser than that one.

It's pretty much up to the ringside doc't, who advises the ref.

Lewis is about 6'5 and Klitchko 6'7...just about any ref would have looked like a runt.

HBO's Larry Merchant was describing Vitali's injury as a torn rotator cuff -- very painful. If he withdrew from a fight with one of those, I couldn't blame him...

Klitschko's cut came from a glancing blow. It almost looked like he got ripped by the laces on the gloves -- except the gloves that they were using didn't seem to have exposed laces. Nevertheless, Vitali looks like a "bleeder". Heckuva fight though!

It was a travesty, to stop the fight because the winning guy is bleeding for few rounds and has no problem fighting and is able and willing to fight, while the "winner" Lewis was on the verge of colapsing is a shame. It was a great fight and there are more to come from Ukrainian PhD brothers. Nice to see white man winning in the ring. Fight was stopped when Klitschko was winning, he is the winer and not the mumbling Lewis. Doctor/referee screwed the good fight, what a shame. Klitschkos Roll!

In California they are more squamish than in NY or Las Vegas.
